Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7208c, the UnixWare 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 Emergency Recovery Supplement, corrects a number of problems found when creating emergency recovery diskette sets. SLS ptf7208b addressed these problems: 1. On systems where greater than 4 gigabytes (GB) of memory has been configured a 'hang' after booting from the first is seen. The floppy light remains on after 'Starting UnixWare...' is seen on the console; the second diskette is never requested. The memory had been enabled via: ENABLE_4GB_MEM=Y being set in /stand/boot This parameter is now no longer copied to the /stand/boot on the emergency recovery diskette set. The mini-kernel used has no such knowledge of memory in this range, and at this stage of the recovery process, doesn't need to know. 2. Transfer block sizes of 64K causing restore failures on some file systems. 3. Tape restore failures. 4. Incorrect or non-existent error reporting. 5. Restores can take a very long time on some tape drives. 6. Emergency recovery diskettes, when used to recover a system with additional RAID devices attached, such as EMC/CLARiiON devices, can restore root to the RAID device instead of the boot disk. SLS ptf7208c additionally addresses this problem: 7. After booting from emergency boot floppies, disk is found to be in a "not sane" condition and no further disk manipulations are possible via the emergency_disk tools provided. SLS ptf7208c contains: /sbin/emergency_rec /usr/lib/drf/bmkdev /usr/lib/drf/conframdfs /usr/lib/drf/cut_flop /usr/lib/drf/disk2.files /usr/lib/drf/diskop /usr/lib/drf/drf_inst.gen /usr/lib/drf/drfram.proto /usr/lib/drf/locale/C/txtstr /usr/lib/drf/tapeconfig Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS ptf7208c should only be installed on: UnixWare 7 Release 7.0.0, 7.0.1 Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1.
