Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7141b, the ARCserveIT v6.61 Maintenance Supplement, adds new feature enhancements, provides additional device support, and corrects known issues with ARCserveIT 6.61. SLS ptf7141a addressed these issues: 1. Many new features have been added to enhance the Device Manager's operations on both the GUI and command-line interface. (a) The user is allowed to enable/disable a drive within a changer dynamically: With this feature, the user doesn't need to bring down the media server when it is necessary to swap or remove a bad drive. (b) The user is allowed to bring the changer Online/Offline without shutting down the media server: This allows users to maintain any changer having trouble such as changing magazines, and remove media that is stuck for any reason without affecting the accessibility or operation of other changers or drives managed by the same media server. (c) The auto-cleaning feature is now configurable: Users now have the option to schedule automatic cleaning of drives and choose the frequency of the cleaning. The cleaning interval is specified by the number of hours the drive has been in use. (d) Users can schedule the export of media after a backup: This capability allows users to specify that the media used in a backup job be exported automatically at the completion of the job. This option was available only for standalone tape drives, but is now available for tape changers as well. (e) Media selection with changer: When ARCserveIT selects media from a changer to use in a backup job, ARCserveIT will search for the first usable media starting from slot 1 onward, regardless of whether usable media is currently loaded. 2. Networked Library Option (NLO) changes have been included. (a) The setup script has been updated for better NLO configuration. (b) Tape changers with several thousand slots have been optimized with the ACSLS and Graphical User Interface to minimize configuration time. 3. When multiple jobs were submitted, with some jobs completed and some still active, asdbd would core dump during the database update. 4. When multiple agents were using the asagent, the command "asagent start" would sometimes fail to start asagent. The asagentd.log file displayed this error message: Failed to bind socket port, address in use 5. A problem with the GFS Rotation Monthly backup date, which would occasionally incorrectly calculate the date of a monthly backup, has been corrected. 6. Reports generated using the Report Manager GUI reported all Y2K dates incorrectly. When a report was generated with dates that were year 2000 or greater, the year was displayed as 100 (year 2000), 101 (year 2001), and so on. Depending on the version of the operating system on which SCO ARCserveIT is being run, the year 2000 could also be displayed as a two-digit number of 69 or greater. The correct format for these dates should be 00 (year 2000), 01 (year 2001), and so on. SLS ptf7141b additionally addresses these issues: 7. configure_changer.ksh has been updated to address problems seen with asetup. 8. This error message in asmedia.log has been corrected: Error while parsing asmediad.cfg: Invalid adapter entry Note: If this is still a problem, run sdiconfig -l to determine where the tape drive is attached, remove unused adapters from the adapter section in /opt/ARCserveIT/config/asmediad.cfg, and then run asetup again or run the command "arcserve -load asmediad". 9. Fixes for running ARCserveIT with the Online Data Manager (also known as Veritas Volume Manager) have been included. 10. This error message has been addressed: ioctl: Not a typewriter 11. Various device support fixes have been added, including: HP C7200 (barcode) ECRIX (compression) Dell PV-120T-DSS4 changer (cleaning) Dell PV-120T-DSS4 changer (inquiries) 12. Support for the following devices has also been added: Product Name Firmware ------------ -------- Dell PV-120T-DDSAL LOU6 Dell PV-120T-DLTAL D116 Exabyte 230D 2.04 HP C7200 1040 Quantum DLT-4000 CD55 Sony SDT-10000 0110 Sony SDT-9000 0600 Sony TSL-11000 L100 Tandberg Data SLR 100 0366 Tandberg Data SLR 6 0366 Tandberg Data SLR Autoloader 0207 ECRIX VXA-1 General Information (1) To increase the Java performance while using the Netscape or Internet Explorer browsers, users should increase the system swap space and memory cache and set them as high as possible. (a) Setting memory cache to at least 10240KB (or 20480KB) and disk cache to OK on Netscape is recommended. (b) The system swap space plus true memory should be set to at least 128MB to achieve better performance. (c) Also, set your browser proxy settings to bypass the company proxy server when accessing the ARCserveIT server machine. Consult with your System Administrator to set up the proxy settings to bypass the proxy server for internal systems. (2) To increase the media server performance, it is recommended that you increase the shared memory buffers the media server uses. To do this you must increase the shared memory of your system to a minimum of 512KB. Consult your System Admin Guide about how to change the max shared memory segment size on your system. After increasing the system shared memory size, edit the $ARC_HOME/config/asmediad.cfg as shown. [CONFIG] IO_BUFFERS= where < SMB > = number of shared memory I/O buffers. System maximum shared memory segment size should be equal or greater than the Shared memory used by media server ( = SMB * 16K ). (3) When using the -deletefiles switch with the 'as_backup' command line or the "Delete Files After Backup" option from the Backup Manager, files selected under the root (/) directory will not be deleted after the backup is complete for the security of root (/) filesystem. (4) The following additional information supplements the ARCserveIT documentation: (a) Correction for "Tape Drive Head Cleaning" section under Device Manager Help: Cleaning tape should be placed according to the vendor's specified slot inside the drive. ARCserveIT will not be able to read the cleaning tape if placed in any other slots rather than specified cleaning slot. Please consult the vendor's device manual for more information. (b) Correction for "How ARCserveIT Assigns Devices into Device Groups" section under Device Manager Help: ARCserveIT uses the names of the planets as group names if and only if the devices are attached to the first adapter. If there are no devices or more than 7 devices are attached to the first adapter, the group names will be group0, group1 and so on.
