Dear SCO Customer,

Support Level Supplement (SLS) PTF7048B, the DDI8 qlc1020 HBA Supplement, 
addresses the following problems:

  - The performance of ARCserve tape operations is poor on systems
    using a qlc1020 HBA to control the tape unit.

  - On some tape devices it may not be possible to restore data
    from a backup created by ARCserve.

  - System hangs can occur during failover when using the qlc1020
    HBA driver as part of an MPIO configuration.


Software Notes and Recommendations
----------------------------------

SLS PTF7048B should only be installed on:

    UnixWare 7.0.1


Installation Instructions
-------------------------

When using PTF7048B as an additional HBA diskette during an operating 
system installation, be sure to insert this diskette _before_ any other 
HBA diskettes.

1. Become root and create a new directory by typing the following:
 
     $ su
     Password: <type your root password>
     # mkdir /tmp/pkg
     # chmod 700 /tmp/pkg
     # cd /tmp/pkg

2. Download the ptf7048b.hba.qlc1020.dd.Z file to the newly created 
   /tmp/pkg directory on your machine.
 
3. Uncompress the file, make a floppy image of the file and add the 
   SLS package to your system using these commands:
 
     # uncompress /tmp/pkg/ptf7048b.hba.qlc1020.dd.Z
     # dd if=ptf7048b.hba.qlc1020.dd of=/dev/dsk/f0t
     # pkgadd -d /dev/dsk/f0t

4. Reboot the system after installing this SLS.

5. When using this HBA during installation, be sure to insert it before
   the distribution HBA diskette, even if the on-screen instructions
   seem to indicate otherwise.


Removal Instructions
--------------------

1. As root, remove the package using these commands:

     $ su
     Password: <type your root password>
     # pkgrm qlc1020

2. Reboot the system after removing this SLS.
