Getting Started ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Binary Compatibility Module (BCM) for SCO UnixWare 2.1.x The Binary Compatibility Module (BCM) for SCO® UnixWare ® 2.1.x -- UW2compat -- enables applications compiled on the UnixWare® 7.1.0 UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit (UDK) to be run on SCO UnixWare 2.1.x systems. System Requirements Software: SCO UnixWare 2.1.3 RAM: N/A Disk Space:8MB Installation Perform the following steps as root: 1. Download the product file from the ftp site. 2. Install the BCM: pkgadd -d `pwd`/UW2compat.pkg Important Notes Binary Compatibility Modules (BCMs) are created in conjunction with SCO UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit (UDK) releases. For example, this BCM -- UW2compat Version 7.1.0 -- enables applications that were written and compiled with UDK Release 7.1.0. If the SCO Network Maintenance Supplement for UnixWare 2.1.3, PTF4001, is on the system, it must be removed before installing the UW2compat package. PTF4001 should then be reinstalled after UW2compat installation. If you later wish to remove the UW2compat, PTF4001 must be removed first. The UW2compat can then be removed, and PTF4001 should be reinstalled. For technical details about the contents of this BCM, see ``How the BCM works on SCO UnixWare 2.1.x''. For more information about the UDK, see the UDK documentation set on the SCO documentation server; click on Software Development. Product Updates The latest BCM releases for your platform will be available at this download site. How the BCM works on SCO UnixWare 2.1.x The compatibility module for SCO UnixWare 2.1.3 works by replacing certain existing (i.e., UnixWare 2.1.3) shared libraries with updated (i.e., UnixWare 7.1.0) versions, as well as installing the UDK tools. Both native UnixWare 2.1.3 binaries and UnixWare 7.1.0 compiled binaries use the updated libraries. Besides shared libraries, certain other files need to be part of the BCM. Such files would be any file that is part of the system and is visible to a running application. This includes, for example, locale files, configuration files, other data files like bitmaps, etc. You can do pkgrm UW2compat to restore the original shared libraries and configuration files.
