-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ______________________________________________________________________________ SCO Security Advisory Subject: OpenServer 5.0.6 : REVISED: IPFilter may incorrectly pass packets Advisory number: CSSA-2002-SCO.9.1 Issue date: 2002 October 18 Cross reference: CSSA-2002-SCO.9 ______________________________________________________________________________ 1. Problem Description When matching a packet fragment, insufficient checks were performed to ensure the fragment is valid. Malicious remote users may be able to bypass filtering rules, allowing them to potentially circumvent the firewall. The previous fix introduced a problem printing timestamps correctly, as well as a problem resetting statistic counters after they reached their maximum. 2. Vulnerable Supported Versions System Binaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OpenServer 5.0.6 /etc/ipfstat /etc/conf/pack.d/ipl/Driver.o /etc/ipf /etc/ipnat /etc/ipmon /etc/ipfnat 3. Solution The proper solution is to install the latest packages. 4. OpenServer 5.0.6 4.1 Location of Fixed Binaries ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/updates/OpenServer/CSSA-2002-SCO.9.1 4.2 Verification MD5 (VOL.000.000) = 9fbdd9c0732dce599d8cb1586b15eb17 md5 is available for download from ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/security/tools 4.3 Installing Fixed Binaries Upgrade the affected binaries with the following sequence: 1) OpenServer 5.0.6a is required for this update. Or, the CSSA-2002-SCO-39 security supplement can be added, to provide the requisite libraries. 2) Download the VOL* files to the /tmp directory 3) Run the custom command, specify an install from media images, and specify the /tmp directory as the location of the images. 4) Rebuild the operating system by executing /etc/conf/cf.d/link_unix -y 5) Reboot the system. 5.
