SCO Embedded Configuration Toolkit Whitepaper
Appendix B, Hardware

Servers

Servers

The table below describes the hardware requirements for a server using SCO OpenServer Release 5.0. This table should not be taken as an indication of hardware requirements for non-SCO OpenServer systems.

 ------------------------------------------------------------
                     Servers
 ------------------------------------------------------------
 Minimum RAM 8 MB
 Recommended RAM 16 MB
 Minimum hard disk 500 MB
 LAN optional
 WAN optional
 Floppy disk yes
 Tape optional
Servers provide various facilities to disk based systems and diskless clients. They can supply locally run management tools such as editors, spreadsheets and database management systems in addition to acting as application servers for clients. The level of supported facilities is highly dependent on the hardware configuration and the desired level of performance.

If the server is to be an administration server, you must install the SCO Embedded Configuration Toolkit server supplement. This will take an additional 12MB of disk space.

If the server is to be an installation server you must allow 4.5MB for each disk based system template, and an additional 250K for each disk based system. This ignores the size of any application and assumes that no additional products are configured.

If the server is to be used as a boot server you must allow 1.5MB for each diskless client template, and an additional 10K for each diskless client. This ignores the size of any application and assumes that no additional products are configured.

For more information on templates, see ``Client system generation and installation''.
