Network boot

Network boot

Diskless client operating systems boot across an Ethernet LAN, using the BOOTP and TFTP protocols. The diskless client system must be configured with one of the network adapter adapters listed in ``Supported networking adapters''.

Diskless clients tend to boot very quickly. Boot time is typically between 30 and 60 seconds, but may be longer if the hardware initialization takes longer.

Multiple boot servers can be configured for diskless clients, to provide a backup service in the event of one boot server failing. Boot services can be supplied by either embedded servers or client controllers.
