SCO Embedded Configuration Toolkit Whitepaper
Chapter 3, Development environment

Server configuration

Server configuration

When you use the toolkit to customize an embedded application environment, usually you must start by customizing an administrative server.

NOTE: Administrative servers are not always necessary, for example, a configuration of Network Computers would not need such a server.

The server you customize using the toolkit is primarily an administrative server. However, it can also be an installation, application and boot server. The result of your customizing is a server supplement that can only be installed on a system that already has SCO OpenServer Release 5.0 installed.

The installation of the server supplement converts the target system into an administrative server. It contains toolkit-specific utilities such as posinstall(P_ADM), client_reboot(P_ADM) and kconfig(P_ADM). The supplement also contains utilities that enable you to relink client UNIX kernels.

NOTE: The server supplement is only truly created once it has been cut. At this stage you are only specifying the configuration details that must be included in the supplement.
