Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS652A, the Intel Processor Microcode Driver, provides support for the downloading of new microcode to Intel Pentium Pro, Pentium II, III, and 4 processors, as well as support for erasure of the Pentium Processor Serial Number (PSN). Other Pentium family processor issues may also be addressed by this SLS. SLS OSS652A is intended for use on these products: SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.5 with Release Supplement 505a (rs505a) SLS OSS652A supersedes all versions of OSS471. Any version of SLS OSS471 must be removed before installing OSS652A. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the OSS652A media image file (oss652a), place the file in the /tmp directory and rename the file by typing these commands: mv /tmp/oss652a /tmp/VOL.000.000 2. Run the Software Manager with the command: # scoadmin software or double-click on the Software Manager icon in the desktop. 3. Pull down the "Software" menu and select "Install New". 4. When prompted for which host to install from, choose the local machine and then "Continue". 5. When prompted to select the media device: If you are installing this SLS from diskette media, select the appropriate floppy disk drive and then "Continue". Proceed to step 6. If you are installing this SLS from media images per step 1, select "Media Images", then "Continue". When prompted for the "ImageDirectory", enter "/tmp" (or the directory where you placed the VOL file in step 1, and then select "OK". 6. When prompted to select software to install, ensure that the "OSS652A" entry is highlighted. Choose "Install". 7. During installation of OSS652A, you may choose to have the Pentium III Processor Serial Number (PSN) erased. This change is not permanent; each time the system is powered on the PSN is restored, and each time the operating system boots, it is erased (if this option is selected). Your selection can be changed by removing and reinstalling SLS OSS652A. 8. Once the installation finishes, quit the Software Manager. Installation of SLS OSS652A is now complete. The changes will take effect the next time you reboot the system. 9. Log in as root on tty01, and shut down the system: # shutdown -g0 -y After shutting down and rebooting the machine, application of the SLS is complete. Removal Instructions -------------------- Note: Patches must be rolled back in the reverse order in which they were installed on a per-component basis. SLS OSS652A, the Intel Processor Microcode Driver, consists of a patch to the SCO Link kit component. If this component was patched after SLS OSS652A was installed, then you will have to roll back the later patch before you can roll back the SLS OSS652A patch. 1. Log in as root. 2. Execute the command: # scoadmin software or double-click on the Software Manager icon in the desktop. 3. Highlight "OSS652A: Pentium family microcode supplement". 4. Pull down the "Software" menu and select "Remove Software". 5. Once the removal finishes, quit the Software Manager. Removal of SLS OSS652A is now complete. You must reboot your system for the removal to take effect. 6. As root on tty01, shut down the system: # shutdown -g0 -y After shutting down and rebooting the machine, removal of the SLS is complete.
