Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS486A, the UDK Installation Supplement for OpenServer 5.0.5 allows you to install the UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit (UDK) on SCO OpenServer 5.0.5. This SLS is not a custom-installable archive, but rather a compressed tar file containing an installation script to be used instead of the installation script on the UDK media. It also includes updated pkgadd files for the UDK. Until a version of the UDK media is available, which properly considers SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 and above, use SLS OSS486A to install the UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit on all SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 systems. If you have already attempted to install the UDK on SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 without this SLS, use pkgrm to remove all UDK related software and then use SLS OSS486A to reinstall the desired packages. See below for more information. Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS OSS486A is intended for use ONLY on these products: SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Release 5.0.5 SCO OpenServer Desktop System Release 5.0.5 SCO OpenServer Host System Release 5.0.5 UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit 7.0.0 Failure to use SLS OSS486A to install the UDK will result in: - module installation failure; - module installation failure; - module installation failure that corrupts the instance of OSRcompat which installs with the 5.0.5 operating system; - pkginfo -l listing 's status as "partially installed." -------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU ALREADY ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE UDK ON 5.0.5 WITHOUT OSS486A: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Before doing anything else, you must follow the directions below in order to reset your system to a state that will be accepted by the installation script provided with SLS OSS486A. 1. Remove the corrupt OSRcompat and other UDK packages. Check the UDK installation status by typing this command: pkginfo -l If is listed as "partially installed" then you will need to remove it and all other UDK-related packages before using OSS486A. To do this, type: pkgrm package_names Select all UDK-related packages that are listed. The list of UDK packages is as follows: baseupd unmsdk jdk113 uccs xdevsys jdk113pls ucplus mtfdev js10 ustdcomps BASEman jws20 OSRcompat usoftint udkman Be careful not to remove any packages that are not a part of the UDK. ************************************************************************* Note: Do not remove the "UDK Compatibility Module for OpenServer 5.0.5 (ver 5.0.5a)" through Software Manager (custom). Doing so will result in not being able to complete step 2 below. In the event that this simple mistake is made, please do the following prior to continuing with the steps outlined in this letter: - Place the OSES 5.0.5 media in the CD-ROM drive. - Mount the CD-ROM: # mount /dev/cd0 /mnt - Start Software Manager (custom) and select to install new software, selecting "Media Images" as the Media Device. Enter the following path when prompted for the location of the images and select to Install: /mnt/opt/patches/SCO:UDKcompat::5.0.5A - When finished with the re-installation, unmount the OSES 5.0.5 CD-ROM: #umount /mnt Remove the media from the drive and continue with the steps outlined in this letter. ************************************************************************* Follow the prompts until all the UDK packages have been removed. Disregard the dependency checking warnings emitted by pkgrm, as long as the warning only involves items on the list above. 2. Restore the package that was installed during the 5.0.5 operating system installation. Type: cd /tmp zcat /opt/K/SCO/UDKcompat/5.0.5A/UDKcompat/UDKcompat.tar.Z | tar xf - pkgadd -d /tmp OSRcompat Note: If this file does not exist on your system you may install the UDK Compatibility Module for OpenServer 5.0.5 (OSRcompat) from the UDK CD-ROM. The version of OSRcompat that is on the UDK CD-ROM will be the same as, or newer than, the version that was installed with SCO OpenServer 5.0.5. Insert the UDK CD-ROM in the drive and type: pkadd -d /dev/cdrom/cdrom1 OSRcompat Follow the prompts. I. USING SLS OSS486A 1. Obtain and prepare SLS OSS486A. Log in as root. Download the OSS486A file (oss486a.tar.Z). Place the file in the /tmp directory. Uncompress and extract the file by typing these commands: # cd /tmp # zcat ./oss486a.tar.Z | tar xvf - # cd ./oss486a 2. Obtain and mount the UDK CD-ROM. Place the UDK CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and mount it. For example, to mount cd0 to /mnt, type: # mount /dev/cd0 /mnt 3. Run the UDK Installation script, named 505UDKInst.sh, provided with OSS486A, giving the mount-point of the UDK CD-ROM as the argument. For example: # ./505UDKInst.sh /mnt You should get the following message: OSRcompat is already on this system, so will not be installed. To force installation of OSRcompat, remove the current instance on the system and re-run this script. Press to continue. 4. Press and follow the instructions to install the UDK. II. REMOVING SLS OSS486A 1. You can use "rm" to remove OSS486A. For example: rm -rf /tmp/oss486a 2. To remove the UDK, use the pkgrm command. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier.
