Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS478A, the ATAPI (IDE) Driver BTLD Supplement for SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 and 5.0.4, contains a replacement wd driver for: SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Release 5.0.2, 5.0.4 SCO OpenServer Desktop System Release 5.0.2, 5.0.4 SCO OpenServer Host System Release 5.0.2, 5.0.4 SCO OpenServer Internet FastStart Release 1.1.0, 5.0.4 SLS OSS478A supplies a modified wd (IDE) driver which corrects a problem that prevents installation on certain ATAPI (IDE) CD-ROM drives. This problem manifests itself as a hang or panic. IMPORTANT: Do NOT use SLS OSS478A with SLS OSS463B. Both SLSs supply replacement wd drivers, however the wd driver on OSS478A is the most current version. INSTRUCTIONS AT INSTALLATION TIME Prior to installing OSS478A, it is necessary to copy the BTLD to a floppy disk. Follow these step to create your OSS478A BTLD diskette: Download the OSS478A media image file (oss478a.Z file) and place the file in the /tmp directory. Uncompress the file by typing the following command: #uncompress /tmp/oss478a.Z Format a floppy disk by typing the following command: #format Use the dd command to restore the image to the floppy diskette: #dd if=/tmp/oss478a of=/dev/fd0135ds18 You may now begin installation of OSS478A using the following instructions: 1. Boot the system from the SCO supplied standard N0 boot floppy. 2. At the Boot: prompt, type "link" and follow the instructions. 3. Enter "wd" (without quotes) when prompted for the package name. If more than one BTLD driver is required, use quotes around the names; for example "slha wd". 4. Enter "r" to replace the current wd driver when prompted. Note: If you install the SCO OpenServer Release Supplement 5.0.4C, you will need to perform the additional steps outlined below to reinstall the wd driver contained on SLS OSS478A, as the Release Supplement 5.0.4C will install an earlier version of the wd driver on your system: 1. Boot the system and log in as root. 2. Type "/usr/bin/installpkg". 3. When prompted for the floppy disk, insert the OSS478A diskette. 4. Select the package "wd". 5. Enter "y" to replace the wd driver. 6. Enter "y" to rebuild the kernel. 7. Reboot the system. Installation of SLS OSS478A should now be complete. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier. We appreciate your business. SCO Support Services
