Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement, (SLS) OSS476A, the Floppy Driver Supplement, installs an updated floppy driver. SLS OSS476A corrects a problem with repeated access to floppy drive in a tight loop which can result in the screen displaying the message "I/O error". SLS OSS476A is intended _only_ for use on these products: SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Release 5.0.4 SCO OpenServer Desktop System Release 5.0.4 SCO OpenServer Host System Release 5.0.4 I. INSTALLING SLS OSS476A 1. Prepare the media for installation. Download the OSS476A media image file (oss476a.Z file), place the file in the /tmp directory, uncompress and rename the file by typing the following commands: uncompress /tmp/oss476a.Z mv /tmp/oss476a /tmp/VOL.000.000 2. Run the Software Manager with the command: # scoadmin software or double-click on the Software Manager icon in the desktop. 3. Pull down the "Software" menu and select "Install New". 4. When prompted for the host from which to install, choose the local machine and then "Continue". 5. When prompted to select the media device: If you are installing this SLS from diskette media, select the appropriate floppy disk drive and then "Continue". Proceed to step 6. If you are installing this SLS from media images per step 1, select "Media Images", then "Continue". When prompted for the "Image Directory", enter "/tmp" (or the directory where you placed the VOL file in step 1) and then select "OK". 6. When prompted to select software to install, ensure that the "OSS476A" entry is highlighted. Choose "Install". 7. Once the installation finishes, quit the Software Manager. Installation of SLS OSS476A is now complete. Preserving customized files: SLS OSS476A backs up the following user-configurable file and then replaces it: /etc/conf/pack.d/fd/space.c If you have customized this file, you can restore your changes from the backed-up copy after you install the SLS. The file is backed up to: /usr/lib/custom/oss476a.sav/etc/conf/pack.d/fd/space.c II. REMOVING SLS OSS476A Note: Patches must be rolled back in the reverse order in which they were installed on a per-component basis. Hence, if the "Enhanced Floppy Driver" patch is not the most recent patch applied to the UNIX component of the product, you will have to roll back all patches applied after the "Enhanced Floppy Driver" patch prior to rollback of the "Enhanced Floppy Driver" patch. To remove SLS OSS476A from SCO OpenServer 5.0.4, take these steps: 1. Log in as root. 2. Execute the command: # scoadmin software or double-click on the Software Manager icon in the desktop. 3. Highlight "OSS476A: Enhanced Floppy Driver" 4. Pull down the "Software" menu and select "Remove Software". 5. Once the removal finishes, quit the Software Manager.
