Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS459B, the COFF Linker Supplement, resolves a problem found in the COFF Linker which ships in the SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 and 5.0.5 link kit. The linker failed to search the second default directory for required libraries. This SLS was created for Oracle7. Note: After installing OSS459B, this problem will still exist in the COFF Linker included in the SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 Development System; a fix for all copies of the COFF linker will ship in a later Release Supplement. RELEASE INFORMATION SLS OSS459B is intended for use on these products: SCO OpenServer Host System Release 5.0.4, 5.0.5 SCO OpenServer Desktop System Release 5.0.4, 5.0.5 SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Release 5.0.4, 5.0.5 SCO OpenServer Internet FastStart Release 5.0.4, 5.0.5 INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS The instructions that follow enable you to both install the patch from distribution media or media image, as well as configure the patch to be installed from a remote SCO OpenServer Release 5 system over a TCP/IP network. NOTES ON NETWORK INSTALLATION Rather than installing OSS459B from a media image or from a floppy disk, it is possible to install it over the network. In order to do this, another OpenServer 5.0.x system on the network needs to be configured as a network install server. To do this: - Establish an account for "swadmin" on the designated install server. - Load (or install) OSS459B on the designated install server. Note: OSS459B will only install on OpenServer 5.0.4 systems. The steps for "Loading" a patch on an installation server are dependent upon the version of OpenServer running on the server: Loading OSS459B on 5.0.4: If the patch is also required to be installed on the installation server, then follow the same steps 1-8 for installing the patch as described above; a side effect of installing the patch is that it gets loaded too. If the patch is not required to be installed on the installation server, then follow the same steps 1-8 for installing the patch as described above except modify step 6 to perform just a load rather than a full install. Modified step 6: 6. You will see the "Install Selection" menu. The window will highlight the line: "COFF Linker Supplement (ver OSS459B)". At this point, choose "More Options". In the next window, select "Load Only", then choose "Install". Loading OSS459B on 5.0.0 or 5.0.2: Perform the following steps: 1. Log in as root. 2. If you are installing this SLS from a media image, there is a file called oss459b.Z. Uncompress this file and copy it to the /tmp directory and name it VOL.000.000: # uncompress oss459b.Z # cp oss459b /tmp/VOL.000.000 3. Invoke the Software Manager by double clicking on the Software Manager icon on the desktop, or by executing the command: # scoadmin software 4. Pull down the "Software" menu and select "Patch Management-->Load Patch". 5. You will see the "Begin Load Patch" menu. If this is a local installation from a media image file: - Select the local machine name, then choose "Continue". - In the "Select Media" menu, pull down the "Media Device" menu and select "Media Images", then choose "Continue". - In the "Enter Image Directory" menu. Enter /tmp and choose "OK". If this is a local installation from floppy disk media: - Select the local machine name, then choose "Continue". - In the "Select Media" menu, pull down the "Media Device" menu and select "Floppy Disk Drive", then choose "Continue". 6. You will see the "Load Patch Preference" menu and the name of the patch will appear: "COFF Linker Supplement (version OSS459B)" together with a prompt asking whether a full or partial installation is required. Choose "Full". 7. You will see the "Load Patch Progress" window. If the patch loads successfully, you will see a "Message" window that states "Load Patch complete". Choose "OK". You are then returned to the main Software Manager window. 8. Loading of patch OSS459B is now complete. To exit the Software Manager, select "Exit" from the "Host" menu. III. PATCH REMOVAL Note: Patches must be rolled back in the reverse order in which they were installed on a per-component basis. Hence, if the OSS459B patch is not the most recent patch applied to the UNIX component of the product, you will have to roll back all patches applied after the OSS459B patch prior to rollback of the OSS459B patch. 1. Log in as root. 2. Invoke the Software Manager by double clicking on the Software Manager icon on the desktop, or by executing the command: # scoadmin software 3. The Software manager will display all the software currently installed on the local machine. Select "COFF Linker Supplement (ver OSS459B), pull down the "Software" menu and select "Remove Software..." 4. In the "Confirm Selected Software" menu, check that the software about to be removed is the "COFF Linker Supplement" and then choose "Remove". 7. You will see the "Rollback Progress" window, as the system performs the rollback of the patch. 8. You will see the "Removal Progress" window. If the patch is removed successfully, you will see a "Message" window that states "Removal complete". Choose "OK". You are then returned to the main Software Manager window. 9. Removal of patch OSS459B is now complete. To exit the Software Manager, select "Exit" from the "Host" menu.
