Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS444A allows you to install SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.2 on a system that has a CD-ROM drive attached to a non-primary "alad" controller. (This supports the 7860/7870/7880 chips and the 2940 card.) Note: Do not use SLS OSS444A with SCO Internet FastStart Release 1.0.0 or 1.1.0. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS To use this SLS, replace the 5.0.2 installation diskette with the SLS OSS444A diskette. The SLS OSS444A diskette is identical to the standard SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 installation diskette, except that it can access up to four alad controllers. After installation, manually edit the following files to allow continued access to the CD-ROM drive. 1. Log in as root. 2. Change directories to edit the alad sdevice entry: cd /etc/conf/sdevice.d 3. Edit the file called "alad" and duplicate the single line found as many times as you have controllers. For example, if you have two controllers, then you should have two lines in the alad file. They will look like the following: alad Y 1 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 alad Y 1 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 4. Relink the kernel: cd /etc/conf/cf.d ./link_unix -y 5. Reboot the system to use the new kernel: /etc/shutdown -y -g0 or init 6 If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier. We appreciate your business. SCO Support Services
