SCOoffice 4.2

MP1 Release Notes

Introduction:

This Maintenance Pack will add features described in these notes and provide a number of fixes for SCOoffice 4.2, including an update to Clam Antivirus.   This MP can be applied to any SCOoffice 4.2 installation on either OpenServer 6 or UnixWare 7.1.4.  The SCOoffice package must be installed as a prerequisite for installing this package.

Installation:

Prior to installation have all users exit their mail clients and shut down the mail server temporarily:

                                    /etc/init.d/insightserver stop

Installation must be performed while logged in as root. The distribution is in pkgadd format. Extract the pkg file to a temporary location, i.e. /tmp/mp, and run

                                    pkgadd –d /tmp/mp1/sof42mp1.pkg

The installation will prepare a backup of all files being replaced by the maintenance pack, so that it can later be removed safely.  After installation completes, restart the mail server as follows:

                                    /etc/init.d/insightserver start

Removal:

To remove the package, first ensure all users are logged off the mail server, stop the server as above, and run:

                                    pkgrm sof42mp1

Added Administrative Features:

Branding:

There is now a capability to provide branding of the Web Interface for both administration and the WebClient. Branding logos are dependent on the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that the user logs into, so there can be different logos for the different domains.  For example, a company with a mail domain of mydomain.com, where the server is accessed internally at http://mail.mydomain.local and externally at http://webmail.mydomain.com, you can provide separate header logos for each login. Domain specific logo files are placed in the directory

/opt/insight/htdocs/branding

And should be jpg files and must be named to match the FQDN – i.e. for the above example the logos would be:

/opt/insight/htdocs/branding/mail.mydomain.local.jpg

/opt/insight/htdocs/branding/webmail.mydomain.com.jpg

Note: the extension jpg must be present and must be lower case. Permissions on the files should be 644 and owner:group of root:apache.  Set these permissions as follows:

                                    chmod 664 /opt/insight/htdocs/branding/*.jpg

                                    chown root:apache /opt/insight/htdocs/branding/*.jpg

The logo will display in a window that is fixed at 50 pixels high and can be up to 400 pixels wide. Image files larger than this will be scaled based on height. Image files that scale to a width greater than 400 pixels will be cut off.

Account Management:

You can now add Organizations and Contacts through the SCOoffice Account Manager (Admin Web Page -> Accounts-> Create Organization or Create Contact).

Organizations are provided to aggregate either Users or Groups by Organization. As an example a multi-national firm might have a domain of mydomain.com, but may create separate Organizations for each region, i.e. Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and then create Users or Groups for each region. The Directory tree for this domain would look like:

            DOMAIN                   Organization               Group                          User/Resource

mydomain.com    Americas                            Sales_Americas                        Joe

Harry

                                                                                                                        Joan

                                                                        Engineering_Americas               Peter

                                                                                                                        Joyce

                                    Europe                         Sales_Europe                           Pierre

                                                                                                                        Dieter

                                                                                                                        Marie

                                                                        Engineering_Europe                  Martine

                                                                                                                        Francois

                                                                                                                                    Emilio

The Organization information forms part of the LDAP database. Existing users can be assigned to a newly created Organization or Group.  When creating a new domain it is simpler to create Organizations first, then Groups, then Users and Resources.

The Contacts functionality provides for adding Contacts to the LDAP Database, rather than to personal Contacts folders. If Contacts are created in the LDAP database they are by default available to all users, whereas if they are added to Personal Contacts folders they must be shared by the owner for all users to see them. It should be noted that Personal Contact folders store contact data in VCARD format and maintain different information than is stored in the LDAP database.

All Account Management screens (Add User, Add Admin, etc) that affect User licenses now display the number of remaining licenses.

Mail Preferences:

The Global Disclaimers has been modified to allow for basic HTML formatting of disclaimers, and you can now add graphics into the disclaimers if the graphics are uploaded to the Server via the Enhanced rich Text editor (see below).  For more information, login to the admin site and choose Mail Delivery -> Global Disclaimers where you can enter the html source for your disclaimer.

Rich Text Editor Enhanced Mode

The Enhanced mode provides for virtually complete HTML formatting of email messages, journal entries etc. including tables, links, uploaded graphics, bookmarks, bulleted lists and advanced formatting. The Rich Text Editor now provides for uploading graphics, flash files, multimedia, and conventional files to be used in Rich Text documents. The uploaded files are placed in /opt/insight/htdocs/UserFiles.
