SCO PPP from Morning Star 2.1.3
Pre-release

SCO PPP from Morning Star is an enhanced and robust connectivity PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) implementation that is heavily used by Internet Service Providers to support networking over serial lines for Internet applications. It includes extensive modem/connectivity device support, advanced error checking and negotiation, and authorization through PAP/CHAP.

System Requirements

Software: SCO OpenServerTM Release 5
Software Supplements: Strongly recommended for SCO OpenServer 5.0.0, SCO OpenServer 5.0.2, SCO Internet FastStart 1.0, and SCO Internet FastStart 1.1
RAM: 32MB
Disk Space: 1MB free disk space

Installation

Perform the following steps as root:

  1. Download the product tar files from the Download page.

  2. Move the file to a preferred installation directory:
    mv filename*.tar /tmp1
  3. Change to the installation directory:
    cd /tmp1
  4. Using the tar(C) command, extract the installation images:
    tar xvf filename.tar
  5. Use the Software Manager (custom(ADM)) to install.

    1. Click on the Software Manager icon, or type custom at a root prompt.
    2. Click on Software, then Install New Product.
    3. When prompted for a machine, select the system you will be installing from.
    4. When prompted for a media device, select Media Images.
    5. When prompted for a directory, enter the directory name used in Step 1 (i.e. /tmp1)

  6. During installation, you will be prompted for a permanent license. If you do not have a permanent license, indicate no at the prompt. The system will then install with a 60-day evaluation license.

Known Limitations

Limitations of this product are noted in the "SCO PPP from Morning Star 2.1.3 notes" section of the Installation and Release Notes. Please read that section of the Installation and Release Notes before attempting to install or configure this product.

Licensing

Evaluation licenses are good for sixty (60) days from the date of installation of the particular product. To use the product beyond the 60-day period, please purchase a permanent Certificate of License and Authenticity (COLA) from your SCO Authorized Reseller, and install that license with the License Manager, /etc/licenseMgr. Evaluation license numbers cannot be reused; removing a product installed with a particular license number and attempting to use that number for the installation of another product will not be successful.

Do not attempt to remove the evaluation license with the License Manager after it is installed. Doing so will cause that license to be invalid should it be used in a subsequent installation.
