Getting Started


SCO ARCserve/Open from Cheyenne 2.2.0k for SCO UnixWare Release 2.1 Platforms

SCO® ARCserve®/Open from Cheyenne® is a comprehensive stand-alone and network backup and restore system for SCO UnixWare® 2.1 systems. Using either the graphical interface or the command line, SCO ARCserve/Open makes it easy to manage backup and restoration of selected files or complete systems, for a single server or for multiple servers and clients across a heterogeneous network. SCO ARCserve/Open's Changer option, coupled with a supported autochanger, provides fully automated, high capacity data storage management.

SCO ARCserve/Open is able to backup and restore leading UNIX® system clients, as well as NetWare®, Microsoft® Windows®, Macintosh®, and OS/2® clients. These client agents are available from the SCO ARCserve/Open Client Agents Download page in the Free Software area.

By downloading and installing SCO ARCserve/Open from this location, you can use and evaluate the product's functionality, including the SCO ARCserve/Open Changer option and connections to 10 client systems for sixty (60) days.

Tape Devices: Wide range of SCSI QIC, 4mm, 8mm, DLT, and autochanger devices



Before Installing

There are several product files provided in the download file.

NOTE: These packages must be installed in the order listed here due to dependencies within each package.



Downloading and Installing SCO ARCserve/Open Products

Depending on the speed and reliability of your Internet connection, you can select to download the SCO ARCserve/Open products as a complete tar file or as partial tar files.




Installing SCO ARCserve/Open products from the Desktop

To install an SCO ARCserve/Open product from the SCO UnixWare Desktop:

  1. Log in as owner and start the Desktop, if it isn't already running.

  2. Select App_Installer from the Admin_Tools folder on the Desktop.

  3. In the ``Install From'' list, select Other.

  4. In the ``Folder'' field, erase the /usr/spool/pkg default entry and enter the name of the package you want to install, including the full path you specified in Step 2 of the SCO ARCserve/Open Download procedure (i.e., /tmp1/<filename>.pkg), and press <Return>.

    After a message about cataloging applications, the selected package icon is displayed.

    NOTE: The packages that are available for installation are described in the ``Before Installing'' section. You must install the packages in the order listed in this section due to dependencies within the packages.

  5. Click on Install.

  6. When installing the arcserve package, a dialog is displayed that prompts you to copy the new SCO_ARCserve icon into the Applications folder on the Desktop. Select the user Desktops to which you want to add the icon and click on OK.

  7. When you are finished installing, select Exit from the Actions menu.

  8. If you installed the arcserve package, run /etc/licenseMgr at the command line and select Option 1 to license the products.

    NOTE: You must have installed the pmd package before you can perform this step.

    If you do not have a permanent license, you can use the following 60-day evaluation license:

    This evaluation license provides full SCO ARCserve/Open server functionality and ten client agent connections. Additionally, this license activates the Changer option.

    When you are finished adding licenses, select q to exit.

  9. The installation defines several important environment variables in the /etc/profile and /etc/cshrc files. When you have completed the installation, run one of the following, depending on the shell you are using, to initialize the proper environment for running SCO ARCserve/Open:

    source /etc/cshrc (for C-shell)

    or

    . /etc/profile (for Bourne or Korn shell)

    Alternatively, you can log out and log back in to set up your environment for running SCO ARCserve/Open.


After installing the SCO ARCserve/Open products, you should refer to the SCO ARCserve/Open Release and Installation Notes. To view these notes, return to the SCO ARCserve/Open Download page and click on the Release Notes link.



Installing SCO ARCserve/Open products from the command line

To install an SCO ARCserve/Open product from the SCO UnixWare command line:

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as root.

  2. Run the pkgadd utility once for each package that you want to install, including the full path to the package file that you specified in Step 2 of the SCO ARCserve/Open Download procedure. For example:

    pkgadd -d /tmp1/<filename>.pkg

    NOTE: The packages that are available for installation are described in the ``Before Installing'' section. You must install the packages in the order listed in this section due to dependencies within the packages.

  3. If you installed the arcserve package, run /etc/licenseMgr at the command line and select Option 1 to license the products.

    NOTE: You must have installed the pmd package before you can perform this step.

Licensing

Please remember that the evaluation licenses are good for sixty (60) days from the date of installation. Should you wish to use the product beyond the sixty day period, you can purchase a permanent Certificate of License and Authenticity (COLA) from your SCO Authorized Reseller.

Evaluation licenses cannot be reused; removing a product installed with a particular license and attempting to use that license for the installation of another product will fail.
