Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) PTF3035, the Maintenance Mode Supplement, has modified the serial number field to hold 14 characters, which corrects a problem that occurs when performing a system recovery. When following instructions to perform a system recovery without an emergency floppy, at the "Accept all settings" screen, the user is told to press for Maintenance mode. When this is done, the user is prompted to enter the serial number. However, only ten character spaces are provided for a 14 character serial number. SLS PTF3035 has modified the serial number field to hold 14 characters. The check has been changed to validate the correct key pairs for SCO UnixWare 2.1.x systems without losing backwards compatibility. Note: SLS PTF3035 is not a replacement of the boot floppy contained in the original product. It should only be used if there is a need to enter into Maintenance mode using the key. Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- PTF3035 should be used to install or to enter Maintenance mode on these releases of SCO UnixWare: SCO UnixWare Application Server Release 2.1.1, 2.1.0 SCO UnixWare Personal Edition Release 2.1.1, 2.1.0 Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Log on to an available system and become root. Type the following to create a new directory: $ su Password: # mkdir /tmp/pkg # chmod 700 /tmp/pkg # cd /tmp/pkg 2. Download the ptf3035.boot.dd file to the newly created /tmp/pkg directory on your machine. 3. Make a floppy image of the file using the command: # dd if=ptf3035.boot.dd of=/dev/dsk/f0t Use this floppy to install or to enter Maintenance mode of an already installed SCO UnixWare 2.1.x system. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier. We appreciate your business. SCO Support Services
