TITLE: TF2219 - PCI Driver patch (includes new boot floppy) PRODUCT AND VERSION: UnixWare 2.01 2.02 2.03 Installation Instructions: DATATYPE: datastream 1. Download the tf2219.boot.as, tf2219.boot.pe, tf2219, and tf2219.txt to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. Read the release notes contained in this file and follow the instuctions to add the package to your system. Abstract -------- This PTF provides the updated PCI driver (/etc/conf/pack.d/pci/Driver.o) that adds unsupported (in UnixWare 2.0*) PCI 2.1 type devices to the resmgr database. For example, Simple Communications controllers and PCI to PCMCIA bridges will now show up in the DCU as UNKNOWN entries. PCI to PCI bridges will not be put in the resmgr by this PTF. Symptom -------- 1. On UnixWare 2.0x, the PCI bus autodetection mechanism does not recognize any Bridge type devices or devices new to the PCI 2.1 specification that were not in PCI 2.0 This PTF removes that restriction, but does not imply any support for these devices (typically a 3d-party driver is needed to support these new devices.) This PTF is only needed for customers that are running UnixWare 2.0.x. SOLUTION SPECIFICS ------------------ General Description. ------------------- The file /etc/conf/pack.d/pci/Driver.o is revised by this PTF. New Features. ------------ Some PCI2.1 type devices and Bridge-type devices will now be added to the resmgr database. Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This patch installs the updated PCI driver: /etc/conf/pack.d/pci/Driver.o This PTF should be installed on UnixWare 2.0x systems. The new pci/Driver.o is included in both tf2219 boot diskette images and tf2219 patch diskette image. If you are already running UnixWare 2.0x and need to update pci/Driver.o, all you need is to install tf2219 patch diskette on your UnixWare 2.0x system and reboot to incorporate the new PCI driver. To build the tf2219 patch diskette, you need to copy the patch diskette image onto a formatted diskette: /usr/bin/dd if=tf2219 of=device_name bs=36b If you need the updated pci/Driver.o to have your UnixWare 2.01 installed, you will need both boot diskette and tf2219 patch diskette. Please follow the installation instructions in the following section "Installation Instructions for using tf2219 boot diskette on UnixWare 2.01" Testing of the modified software contained in this package has been conducted only to the extent necessary to confirm that it resolves the problem(s) stated above ("Symptom"). Such testing consists of recreating the problem conditions (typically in a SCO test laboratory) and verifying that the problem no longer occurs. No other testing of this software has been done. Hardware Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This PTF is targeted for the i386, i486 and Pentium CPU's. Installation Instructions for using tf2219 boot diskette on UnixWare 2.01. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This PTF is designed for use only with the UnixWare 2.01 installation media (that is, UnixWare 2.01 on tape or CD, or in the staging area of a network install server). Do not attempt to use this PTF with UnixWare 2.0. ***** Making the PTF Diskettes ***** Follow this procedure to write the images from this PTF onto diskettes. You will then use these diskettes to install UnixWare 2.01. 1) Format two 3.5-inch diskettes. To format the first diskette, place a blank diskette into a diskette drive and enter /usr/sbin/format -i 1 device_name where device_name is /dev/rdsk/f03ht if your 3.5-inch drive is A, or /dev/rdsk/f13ht if your 3.5-inch drive is B. To format the second diskette, place a blank diskette into a diskette drive and enter /usr/sbin/format -i 2 device_name where device_name is as above. Note that the two "format" lines above are identical except for the argument to the -i option. Put a paper label on each diskette, and write "ptf 2219 Boot Diskette" on the first diskette, and "ptf 2219 Patch Diskette" on the second. 2) Copy the appropriate Boot diskette image onto the first diskette. To do this, enter /usr/bin/dd if=image_file of=device_name bs=36b where image_file is tf2219.boot.as (if you bought the Application Server) or tf2219.boot.pe (if you bought the Personal Edition), and device_name is as described above. Note: If you bought the Personal Edition and you try using tf2219.boot.as, the installation will likely hang, and even if it does not hang you will still have only a two-user license. The licensing data are not contained in tf2219.boot.as or in tf2219.boot.pe. By the way, the reverse is also true -- if you bought the Application Server and you try using tf2219.boot.pe, installation will likely hang. 3) Copy the Patch diskette image onto the second diskette. To do this, enter /usr/bin/dd if=tf2219 of=device_name bs=36b where device_name is as described above. ***** Installing the PTF Diskettes ***** Boot from the diskette labeled "ptf 2219 Boot Diskette". During installation you will be prompted to insert the "ptf 2219 Patch Diskette." Follow the directions you see on the screen at that point. After installation is complete, you will see a blue screen that says Final activation of the UnixWare 2 software requires the installation of selected software. This software is contained on the Install diskette that came with your system. At this point, you need to insert the original UnixWare 2.01 Install diskette that came with your system. Do not insert the "ptf 2219 Boot Diskette," for it will not work.
