Download the tf2047.Z and tf2047.txt files to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. Read the release notes contained in this file and follow the instuctions to add the package to your system. 3. Now become root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using the following commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/tf2047.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/tf2047 ENGINEERING REALEASE NOTES -------------------------- Title ----- PTF2047 - SMC8K Driver update Product And Version ------------------- UnixWare 2.01 and UnixWare 2.02 Abstract -------- This ptf fixes a problem with the SMC8K NIC that occurs when the board starts taking interrupts before all of the data structures are initialized. This fix is put into the lsl and msm modules. Symptom -------- This problem exhibits itself with a panic, usually during startup or shutdown. SOLUTION SPECIFICS ------------------ General Description. ------------------- The modules that fit above the SMC8K driver in the kernel have been modified to keep interrupts suppressed until all of the data structures have been fully initialized and the stream is completely put together. New Features. ------------ None Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This ptf should only be installed on systems that already have the SMC8K driver installed. It should also only be installed on UnixWare 2.01 and UnixWare 2.02 systems. The fix will be put into the 2.03 release of UnixWare and need not be re-installed at that time. Testing of the modified software contained in this package has been conducted only to the extent necessary to confirm that it resolves the problem(s) stated above ("Symptom"). Such testing consists of recreating the problem conditions and verifying that the problem no longer occurs. No other testing of this software has been done.
