Symptom: -------- Large IP packets had a severe performance problem on UnixWare. Increasing the size of the packets resulted in decreased throughput. General Description. ------------------- These release notes acquaint you with the information for UnixWare PTF2006 - "TCP/IP patch for performance with large packets." This update consists of a single 3.5 inch floppy diskette. PTF2006 updates the TCP/IP driver files, /etc/conf/pack.d/tcp/Driver_atup.o and /etc/conf/pack.d/tcp/Driver_mp.o The new driver will provide better throughput for large packets in a TCP/IP network. New Features. ------------ Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- PTF2006 will update the files /etc/conf/pack.d/tcp/Driver_atup.o and /etc/conf/pack.d/tcp/Driver_mp.o with a new versions of the files. The PTF will then rebuild the kernel. The new driver will be installed after the system is rebooted. This update is for Unixware version 2.0.1 Hardware Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- The PTF is targeted for the i386, i486 and Pentium CPU's. Installation Instructions. ------------------------- The PTF consists of 1 3.5 inch floppy. Insert the floppy into the drive and, while logged in as root, type pkgadd -d diskette1 and follow the instructions output by pkgadd. Troubleshooting. --------------- To verify the success of PTF2006, run a test that gradually increases the packet size. If the throughput decreases significantly as the size of the packet increases, then the problem still exists. This PTF was meant to remedy this problem.
