Now become root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using the following commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/ptf658.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf658 ptf658 Solution Specifics PTF658 RELEASE NOTES - "Compaq NetFlex Adapter Driver" General Information ------------------- PTF658 - The UnixWare cet driver - provides support for the Netflex Family of Network Adapter Cards. The Compaq NetFlex Driver Package includes an Ethernet Driver (nflxa), a TokenRing Driver (nflxt), and a Source Routing Module for TokenRing (sr). The cet NetFlex Adapter driver package supports the following NetFlex adapters: Ethernet: Netflex, NetFlexII, NetFlex Dual-Ethernet. TokenRing: Netflex, NetFlexII. HARDWARE NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ---------------------------------- Configuration: Interrupt: Level Triggered. Select the default interrupt vector 11, or select the interrupt vector 10 if 11 is not available. Interrupt Sharing: Enabled When configuring multiple NetFlex adapters, all the adapters should be configured as above. NOTE: Please make note of the irq you selected. The NetFlex Driver installation will prompt for the irq value. SOFTWARE NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ---------------------------------- To install this package, you need a system running UnixWare 1.1. Prior to installation, you must clean up the previous beta release. Due to changes made into the final release, it is necessary to de-install the Beta NetFlex Driver (Ethernet or Token Ring) by executing: /etc/conf/bin/idinstall -d cet rm /etc/rc[02].d/[SK]02cet If you retrieved this from CompuServe or anonymous 'ftp' then you need to make an installation diskette. All installations must be done while logged in as root. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Installation Sequence ===================== The cet package should be installed after the intitial installation of the base. If you only have Compaq network drivers, de-select the Ethernet Hardware Support set during the package selection screen. The tcpset should be installed after cet package. The following are the procedures: 1. install base 2. install cet package via: pkgadd -d diskette1 3. install tcpsetup and other packages 4. setup tcp if necessary Setup TCP/IP ============ If you choose automatic installation of tcpset, you need to run "/etc/confnet.d/configure -i" to setup the IP address and reboot. CET package Installation ======================== Installation will prompt you for the number of boards of Netflex to be installed. Please enter the correct number of boards to be installed. For each of the boards, the resources required by the board will be prompted. Please make sure you have the documentation of the board before proceeding. The system will prompt you for the resources like IRQ, DMA Channel etc. which are required by the board. Please check with the board documentation and enter the appropriate values. Once the package is installed, then you need to shutdown and reboot the computer. Please refer to the UnixWare 1.1 System Administrators Manual on how to do this. If you have other Ethernet/TokenRing Drivers Installed, and you want this driver to be your default driver for IPX/SPX, then please edit the file "/etc/confnet.d/netdrivers" and put this driver as the first line in that file. TROUBLESHOOTING --------------- After the system is rebooted, please see whether the "slist" command returns the correct names of servers on the network. If so, your new driver has been loaded and is working. If not, please follow the steps given below. 1. Do a "modadmin -s" and see if the "nflxe" or "nflxt" module(s) is loaded. If so, then please check whether you have the network properly connected. 2. If the driver module is not loaded, please check whether the settings as specified matches with the settings on the board. If not, please modify the settings so that the two match and retry.
