ABSTRACT:

The ptf623 file contains UnixWare PTF623 - xterm update to allow 8-bit
chars without requiring FontGroup resource.  The xterm that ships with 
UW1.1 is officially "8-bit clean" but it cannot handle characters from 
ISO8859 codesets (Latin-1 thru Latin-9), which are all 1-byte codesets 
used in Western Europe, unless the *fontGroup and *fontGroupDef 
resources are defined. This PTF requires UnixWare 1.1 and 
recommends update 1.1.1


SYMPTOM

The xterm that ships with UW1.1 is officially "8-bit clean" but it cannot
handle characters from ISO8859 codesets (Latin-1 thru Latin-9), which 
are all 1-byte codesets used in Western Europe, unless the *fontGroup and
*fontGroupDef resources are defined.

SOLUTION

Apply the ptf623 file.

Installation Instructions:

DATATYPE: datastream

1.  Download the ptf623 and ptf623.txt files to the /tmp directory
    on your machine.

2.  Read the release notes contained in this file.

3.  Now become root, and add the package to your system using the following
    commands from a terminal window or the UNIX command line:

     $ su
     # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf623 ptf623

Solution Specifics

1. General Description

These release notes acquaint you with the contents of UnixWare 
PTF623 - xterm update to allow 8-bit chars without requiring 
FontGroup resource.

The xterm that ships with UW1.1 is officially "8-bit clean" but it 
cannot handle characters from ISO8859 codesets (Latin-1 thru Latin-9), 
which are all 1-byte codesets used in Western Europe, unless the 
*fontGroup and *fontGroupDef resources are defined.

2. Software Notes

We recommend that PTF623 be installed on UnixWare 1.1 and preferrably 
UnixWare 1.1.1 already installed.  PTF623 contains an updated version 
of the /usr/X/bin/xterm command.

NOTE: This patch is replaced by update 1.1.2.  If you have already 
installed ptf617 (Tek emulation support for xterm) there is no need 
to install this ptf since ptf617 contains ptf623.  If you DO install 
both ptf617 and ptf623, you should install ptf623 first, and ptf617 
last. The net effect would be equal to installing only ptf617.

3. Installation Instructions

Enter:

        # pkgadd -d diskette1

(replace diskette1 with the appropriate device name) to install the fix.
