TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: PTF601 - Fix screen refreshes of icons DOCUMENT ID: TID300034 DOCUMENT REVISION: B DATE: 25JAN95 ALERT STATUS: Yellow INFORMATION TYPE: Symptom Solution README FOR: PTF601 PRODUCT and VERSION: UnixWare 1.1 ABSTRACT: The ptf601 file contains PTF 601 - Fix excessive number of screen refreshes (redrawings) of icons in a desktop folder. The update contains a new dynamic library, libDtI.so, that will be installed in the directory /usr/X/lib. Most, but not all, of the redundant redrawings have been removed. Some limitations prevented the complete removal of redundant redrawings. This PTF can be installed on systems running UnixWare version 1.1 and later. SYMPTOM In a desktop folder, some icons are "refreshed" (redrawn) several times, even though a single refresh should be adequate. This happens regardless of the display type (sometimes mono- vs poly-chrome makes things worse). For a terminal with a "slow link", which may include some X terminals, the multiple refreshes are obvious; for a "fast link" such as a directly connected X server, the multiple refreshes are much less noticeable. SOLUTION Apply the ptf601 file. Installation Instructions: DATATYPE: datastream 1. Download the ptf601.Z and ptf601.txt files to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. Read the release notes contained in this file. 3. Now become root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using the following commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/ptf601.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf601 ptf601 Solution Specifics General Description These release notes detail PTF 601 - Fix excessive number of screen refreshes (redrawings) of icons in a desktop folder. The update contains a new dynamic library, libDtI.so, that will be installed in the directory /usr/X/lib. Most, but not all, of the redundant redrawings have been removed. Some limitations prevented the complete removal of redundant redrawings. New Features In a desktop folder, some icons are "refreshed" (redrawn) several times, even though a single refresh should be adequate. This PTF eliminates many of the redundant redrawings. Software Notes and Recommendations This PTF can be installed on systems running UnixWare version 1.1 and later. NOTE: This patch is replaced by update 1.1.2 Hardware notes and Recommendations No specific hardware is required for the installation of this PTF. Installation Instructions The PTF is on a 3.5 inch floppy diskette in pkgadd format. Insert the diskette into floppy drive 1, and type in the following command at the '#' prompt (you must be logged onto the system as root): #pkgadd -d diskette1 Trouble Shooting After the installation completes, the following 2 tests should be performed to see if the patch worked: Case 1: Select a non-focus item (say NEW) from a folder when an original focus item (say OLD) is selected. Redundant drawings can be removed from both OLD and NEW. Case 2: Double click on a non-focus item (say NEW) from a folder when an original focus item (say OLD) was selected. Once again, redundant drawings can be removed from both OLD and NEW.
