Now become root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using the following commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/ptf288.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf288 ENGINEERING RELEASE NOTES ------------------------- Title ----- PTF288 - Fix for memory deadlock in procfs Product And Version -------------------- UnixWare 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 Abstract -------- This PTF fixes a problem in the procfs module that can cause a memory deadlock. Symptom -------- The UnixWare 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 system stops responding to all requests. That is, the system "hangs." SOLUTION SPECIFICS ------------------ General Description. ------------------- A logic error in the procfs module in UnixWare 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 causes the system to hang. This PTF fixes that error. This problem will occur only on computers with CPUs that support Page Size Extension, such as Intel's Pentium CPU and some late-model i486 CPUs. New Features. ------------ None. Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This PTF can be installed on UnixWare 1.1.3 or UnixWare 1.1.4. If you install this PTF and later install (or reinstall) UnixWare 1.1.3 or UnixWare 1.1.4, you will need to reinstall this PTF. Testing of the modified software contained in this package has been conducted only to the extent necessary to confirm that it resolves the problem(s) stated above ("Symptom"). Such testing consists of recreating the problem conditions and verifying that the problem no longer occurs. No other testing of this software has been done.
