Download the ptf261.Z and ptf261.txt files to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. Read the release notes contained in this file and follow the instuctions to add the packages to your system. 3. Now become root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using the following commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/ptf261.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf261 Solution Specifics Product And Version -------------------- UnixWare 1.1.3, UnixWare 1.1.4. Symptom -------- A PPP connection hangs after an attempt is made to open the same tty device via a cu command. The connection server was allowed to open this tty device again and the streams modules required by cu were pushed onto the stream head, thereby trashing the PPP connection. General Description. ------------------- Opening the same tty device multiple times causes an existing connections to hang. The connection server now checks to see if a lock file exist before attempting to open the tty device. If one exist, the attempted operation is aborted. New Features. ------------ None. Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This PTF can be installed on UnixWare 1.1.3 thru UnixWare 1.1.4 systems using com ports or port cards with modems that incur the problem described under the "Symptom" section of these Release Notes. It must be reinstalled following the subsequent update to UnixWare Update 1.1.4 or after an overlay installation of UnixWare Update 1.1.3 or 1.1.4. This PTF CANNOT be used on UnixWare 2.X systems. NOTE: The configuration of modems using the Dialup_Setup icon under the System_Setup folder creates the UUCP entry in /etc/uucp/Devices using the software flow control tty device, tty[0-9][0-9]s. The PPP documentation recommends using the hardware flow control tty device, tty[0-9][0-9]h. If this configuration is used, the problem described in the "Symptom" section will not occur. Testing of the modified software contained in this package has been conducted only to the extent necessary to confirm that it resolves the problem(s) stated above ("Symptom"). Such testing consists of recreating the problem conditions and verifying that the problem no longer occurs. No other testing of this software has been done. Hardware Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This PTF is targeted for the i386, i486 and Pentium CPU's, and systems configured to use com ports or ports cards with modems. If the Terminal Ready (TR) or Data Terminal Ready (DTR) is lit on the modem and no other indicators are lit, a previous attempt to establish a PPP connection failed. Power sequence the modem, turn off then on, and try establishing the PPP connection again.
