New Features. ------------ None Software Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This patch can be installed on any UnixWare 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 system. If Update 1.1.1 or 1.1.3 is installed after installing this patch, it must be reinstalled (it is recommended, but not required, that this patch be removed before installing any Update, then subsequently reinstalled). Hardware Notes and Recommendations. ---------------------------------- This PTF is intended for Compaq Deskpro XL systems, but may be installed on any system with an i386, i486 or Pentium processor. Installation Instructions. ------------------------- This PTF consists of 1 3.5 inch floppy. Insert the floppy into the drive and, while logged in as root, type pkgadd -d diskette1 and follow the instructions output by pkgadd. The below information applies only to Compaq Deskpro XL systems: After installing UnixWare 1.1, you should NOT power off your system nor use /usr/sbin/fdisk (any version prior to that installed by this PTF) to update the system master boot code. Next, bring the system to the current update level. Lastly, install this PTF. If you power off your system prior to installing this PTF, the system will hang while booting after being powered on, and can then be booted using CTRL-ALT-DEL. If you use /usr/sbin/fdisk to update the system master boot code, your system will be unbootable (even after CTRL-ALT-DEL) and you will need to restore the master boot code from the installation floppies as described below. Troubleshooting. --------------- If your system becomes unbootable, the following procedure may used to restore the master boot code from the installation floppies: 1) What you will need... 1st and 2nd installation floppies IHV/HBA diskette (if you needed one when initially installing UnixWare) 2) Boot the system from the 1st floppy 3) Insert the IHV/HBA diskette (if necessary) when prompted to do so 4) Insert the 2nd floppy when prompted and supply appropriate responses for the keyboard and time information 5) When the "Hard Disk Partitioning" screen is displayed... Select option 1 (Overwrite system master boot code), then select option 4 (Update disk configuration and exit) 6) The installation process will then detect that files already exist in the Unix partition and give you the opportunity to halt the installation; select option 2 to halt. 7) Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot your computer.
