The driver is intented to work with Compaq ProSignia VS Servers which have the Single-Chip Ethernet Controller built-in on the motherboard. It is certified to work under UnixWare 1.1. HARDWARE NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Compaq HiLance driver has been CERTIFIED on the Compaq Prosignia VS 486/66 for the following configuration only (other configurations will also work, but have not necessarily been tested): Driver Name: pnt Interrupt Request Level (IRQ): 10 I/O Address: 8800 Connector Type: AutoSense (TP). SOFTWARE NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) To install this package, you need a system running UnixWare 1.1. This driver will not work under UnixWare 1.0. If you have got this from CompuServe or anonymous 'ftp' then you need to make an installation diskette. Execute the following steps to make an installable diskette. All the steps have to be done with 'root' permissions. 0) Get the file pnt.txt (this file) and pnt.Z onto your system. 1) Format the floppy using the following command, # format /dev/rdsk/f03ht (f13ht if drive is B:) 2) Make an installable diskette using the following command, # uncompress -c pnt.Z | dd of=/dev/dsk/f03ht INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To install this package on your computer, you need to do a 'pkgadd' of the diskette, using the following command. # pkgadd -d diskette1 Note : If you are working from the desktop, you can do the installation by selecting the "System_setup" icon from the root window, followed by "Appln_setup". Then, click on "View", select "Uninstalled_apps" and select the floppy diskette. The Interrupt Vector (IRQ) required by the board will be prompted. Please make sure you know the IRQ number. The IRQ number can be obtained when you configuring the system via EISA Configuration Utility (ECU). Once the package is installed, then you need to shutdown and reboot the computer. Please refer to the UnixWare 1.1 System Administrators Manual on how to do this. If you have other Ethernet/TokenRing Drivers Installed, and you want this driver to be your default driver for IPX/SPX, then please edit the file "/etc/confnet.d/netdrivers" and put this driver (pnt_0) as the first line in that file. TROUBLESHOOTING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the system is rebooted, please see whether the "slist" command returns the correct names of servers on the network. If so, your new driver has been loaded and is working. If not, please follow the steps given below. 1. Do a "modadmin -s" and see if the module "pnt" is loaded. If so, then please check whether you have the network properly connected. If so, please contact Novell Customer Support for more help. 2. If the module "pnt" is not loaded, please check whether the IRQ settings as specified matches with the settings on the board (in EISA NVMRAM). If not, please modify the settings so that the two match and retry.
