Dear SCO Customer,
Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7439b, the UnixWare 7.1.0 s5, sfs, 
memfs and vxfs Driver Supplement, addresses the following problems:

1. Some actions can consume the whole of memory, forcing a box to
   start swapping.

Additionally fixed in SLS ptf7439b:

2. The ls command locks on memfs.

3. A security issue in the usage of /tmp involving linking or symbolic
   linking of well known temporary file names to critical system files
   is fixed. The fix is implemented as additional restrictions on link, 
   rename (mv) and symbolic linking on directories that have the sticky 
   bit set.

Software Notes and Recommendations

SLS ptf7439b should only be installed on:

        UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.0


Installation Instructions
-------------------------

1. Download the ptf7439b.Z file to the /tmp directory on your machine.

2. As root, uncompress the file and add the SLS package to your system
   using these commands:

        $ su
        Password: <type your root password>
        # uncompress /tmp/ptf7439b.Z
        # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf7439b
        # rm /tmp/ptf7439b

3. Reboot the system after installing this SLS package.

The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in:

        /var/sadm/pkg/ptf7439/install/ptf7439.txt


Removal Instructions
--------------------

1. As root, remove the SLS package using these commands:

        $ su
        Password: <type your root password>
        # pkgrm ptf7439

2. Reboot the system after removing this SLS package.
