Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf4032c, the SCO UnixWare 2.1 emergency_rec Update Supplement, addresses all of the problems listed below. SLS ptf4032a addressed the following issues: 1. emergency_rec will not save the /usr filesystem if it is located on a second hard disk. A recovery will succeed, but the resulting system will not be usable, due to the lack of a /usr filesystem. 2. A block size of 64KB is used when emergency_rec is called with the "-d" option. This block size is not supported by some tape drives. 3. emergency_rec will fail with the message "Duplicate mountpoint /dev/swap" when swap and /home2 are on a second hard disk. 4. Warning messages similar to "/dev/dsk/c0b0t0d0sb busy" are produced if /usr and /var filesystems are on separate slices. SLS ptf4032b addressed the following issues: 5. An emergency disk creation does not save the disk devices and can choose a different root disk on recovery. 6. /usr/lib/drf/diskop was now included. SLS ptf4032c additionally addresses these issues: 7. Following an emergency_rec recovery, the system would panic with a "cannot execute /sbin/init" message on reboot. 8. When using the -d options, the restore and save times are very slow. 9. On a reboot following a restore, a "cannot find sip" message may be displayed. 10. On some hardware, a "hard disk not sane" message may be displayed when booting from the emergency_disk diskettes. SLS ptf4032c contains the following files: /etc/.fboot /etc/fboot /sbin/emergency_rec /usr/lib/drf/bmkdev /usr/lib/drf/drf_inst.gen /usr/lib/drf/drfram.proto /usr/lib/drf/prep_flop /usr/lib/drf/tapeconfig Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS ptf4032c should only be installed on: UnixWare 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2 or 2.1.3 SLS ptf4032c supersedes all previous versions of ptf4032; however, it is not necessary to remove those SLSs prior to installing SLS ptf4032c.
