Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) PTF3387, the Pentium Pro MCE Handling and Reporting Supplement, corrects a number of problems related to the handling of Machine Check Exceptions (MCEs). SLS PTF3387 corrects these problems: 1. MCE status registers were not cleared at boot time. Clearing these registers is normally a function of the BIOS, but some systems do not implement this function. These registers are now cleared at system startup to enable MCEs to be handled correctly. 2. Restartable MCEs were not being logged correctly. These are now logged in /usr/adm/log/osmlog along with all other MCEs. 3. Some Pentium Pro processors experience a rare spurious Machine Check condition which is documented in Intel's Pentium Pro Processor Specification Update as Erratum #59. This gives details of a workaround which should be applied to the BIOS. On systems that do not implement this workaround an equivalent workaround can be enabled by editing: /etc/conf/pack.d/svc/space.c and changing the last line in the file from: boolean_t p6_erratum59_workaround = B_FALSE; to: boolean_t p6_erratum59_workaround = B_TRUE; Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- This SLS can be installed on these releases: SCO UnixWare Application Server Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 SCO UnixWare Personal Edition Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1.
