Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) PTF3004, the NWS Kernel Tunable supplement, contains modifications to reset kernel tunables on systems that are not supporting NetWare Services (NWS). This SLS can be installed on SCO UnixWare Application Server Release 2.1.0 and SCO UnixWare Personal Edition Release 2.1.0 systems that do not have the nwsrvr (UnixWare 2.1.0 NetWare Services) package installed. The SCO UnixWare 2.1.0 kernel has been tuned specifically for use with NWS. This tuning allows applications to consume large amounts of virtual memory resources that are not available on conventionally tuned systems. Developers should be aware that applications developed in this environment, without regard for the special NWS tuning, may not function on systems with conventional tuning. It is recommended that developers obtain update PTF3004. PTF3004 will detune the operating system to standard default levels for an installation that is not supporting NWS. These parameters will be set to the old default value (0x1000000). They are currently set to 0x7FFFFFF (unlimited): SDATLIM HDATLIM SSTKLIM HSTKLIM SCORLIM HCORLIM These parameters will be set to the old default value (0x2000000). They are currently set to 0x7FFFFFF (unlimited): SVMMLIM HVMMLIM Note that in SVR4.2MP, the value of [S|H]VMMLIM must be large enough to encompass [S|H]STKLIM, and other kernel tunables, that processes need. Therefore, all these values cannot be set to unlimited at the same time. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the ptf3004.Z and ptf3004.txt files to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using these commands: $ su # uncompress /tmp/ptf3004.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf3004 If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier. We appreciate your business. SCO Support Services
