Note: Using EDO or FPM SIMMs:

EDO (Extended Data Out) or FPM (Fast Page Mode) SIMMs can be used.
Always upgrade memory in Pairs.
If EDO and FPM SIMMs are mixed (EX: using two EDO SIMMs and two FMP SIMMs), the computer will default to FPM and system performance may be lost.

Advantage of using EDO:
EDO DRAMS offer performance benefits over and above what is commonly available with standard Fast Page Mode (FPM) DRAMs. With EDO DRAM, when CAS is deasserted, the data remains valid, so it can accomplish read access times of approx -2-2-2 clocks.
In short, EDO squeezes more transfers into a given amount of time, thereby increasing performance.
