Deskpro XL Memory Instructions

Note: Memory on the Deskpro XL is configured using the Compaq EISA Configuration utility.

Installing Memory in Pentium and 486 Units:

1.      Power the unit and monitor off.

2.      Remove the AC power cord.

3.      Remove the cover.

4.      Perform anti-static discharge protection. You should be grounded before touching electronic devices.

5.      Push the SIMM down into the socket at roughly a 45o angle. There is a notch in one end of the SIMM that matches with tab in the SIMM socket. The SIMM will only fit one way. Ensure that the SIMM is fully inserted and properly seated.

6.      Rotate the SIMM gently upward, allowing the latches to snap into place.

7.      Re-install the Cover and power cord. Power monitor on.

8.      Turn the computer On-- You will get an error message "164 - Memory Size Error".

9.      Press the F1 key. Then F10 to run System (ESIA) configuration Utility.

10.  Allow the Utility to automatically configure the unit.

11.  Select exit and save changes.

12.  The unit will reboot and should read new memory count on boot up.

NOTES:

·         Any 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, or 32-MB industry standard 70-ns SIMM may be added in pairs to expand the memory of this unit to a maximum of 128-MB in the 486 based unit or 136-/144-MB in the Pentium units.

·         Memory modules must be installed two at a time of equal size and type in slots 1 & 2, then 3 & 4 in the 486 based units. If four 32-MB SIMMs are used, it will disable the 8-MB memory that is soldered on the processor board.

·         Memory modules must be installed two at a time of equal size and type in slots 1 & 3, then 2 & 4 in the Pentium units.

·         Any change to memory-- either installing or removing SIMMs --will give you the "164 - Memory Size Error". Press the F1 key to save changes -- the system will automatically re-boot.
