SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP9585 PART NUMBER: N/A FILE NAME: N/A TITLE: Netelligent 56K ISA Modem K56flex-to-V.90 Firmware Upgrade Wizard 2.21 VERSION: 2.21 Rev B LANGUAGE: English CATEGORY: ROMpaq DIVISIONS: Comm-Network PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Compaq Netelligent 56K ISA Data/Fax Modem (Firmware Ver. 1.x, 2.x) OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows 3.1, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: IBM Compatible 486DX2/66 or greater with 4 MB system RAM, at least 5 MB of free hard disk space, and a Compaq Netelligent 56K ISA Data/Fax Modem PREREQUISITES: N/A EFFECTIVE DATE: January 26, 1999 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 2.x SUPERSEDES: SP7803 DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the files needed to install the K56flex-to-V.90 Upgrade Wizard 2.21, which upgrades the modem firmware to the V.90 standard on Compaq Netelligent 56K ISA Data/Fax Modems. Includes new modem driver and update instructions. The Upgrade Wizard allows the user to switch easily among the following three firmware versions at any time: - Failsafe backup of the original modem firmware. - K56Flex transitional firmware (V. 2.013C, "V.90-aware"). NOTE: This firmware permits tracking the modem's connections and detects when the ISP's modems have been upgraded to the V.90 standard. - Final V.90 firmware (V. 2.21). The Upgrade Wizard performs the following: 1. Detects the modem and reads the current firmware version. 2. Backs up the current firmware of the modem to the users hard disk for possible later use. 3. Lets the user choose to flash the modem with either the K56Flex transitional firmware or the final V.90 firmware. 4. Monitors the connections the modem makes with ISPs and detects if the ISP has V.90 capability. If V.90 capability is detected, the user is notified when subsequently running the Update Wizard. The user is then prompted to flash the modem with the final V.90 firmware. Enhancements/Fixes: - Fixes 3Com server violation/Dual PCM Detection problem - Fixes pulse dialing lockup problems - Fixes lockup problem when calling Lucent server - Fixes fax calling tone not sent in subsequent calls - Fixes lockup problem when connecting to Lucent server with 3dB pad - Fixes CI detection problem with Lucent modems - Fixes lockup problem in Videophone mode on hangup - Adds workaround for certain Cisco V.34 servers by not sending the 9th Octet in V.8 to allow connections HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to confirm (or change) the name and location of the directory into which the files contained in the Softpaq will be unpacked. 3. After the files are unpacked, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 1. 4. For installation instructions, use a text editor to read and print the file README.TXT. 5. To install the K56flex-to-V.90 Update Wizard 2.21, run SETUP.EXE from the folder to which you expanded the SoftPaq files and follow the on-screen instructions. The setup program creates the default subdirectory \Compaq\CNISA56K\V90Wiz21 on the hard drive, and the icons "V90 Wizard 2.21" and "Uninstall" in the program group "Compaq Netelligent 56K ISA". 6. At the end of the installation, you may choose to read the README.TXT file for detailed instructions on the use of the K56flex-to-V.90 Update Wizard 2.21 (this file is the same as the file listed in step 4 above). 7.
