For Presario PCs that have the system hard drive partitioned into C: and D:, as it comes originally from Compaq, the Emergency Recovery Diskette allows the new "Typical QuickRestore" option if a "System Save" was performed by the user. A "Typical QuickRestore" restores the C: partition from the D: partition. The C: partition will be restored with all the programs and user data that were last saved to D: by the "System Save" option. This is a very useful alternative to the original "Full QuickRestore" option, which restores the original Factory Software Image from a CD, overwriting any user data. ************************************************************************** Note: If no "System Save" was performed by the user, the only choice is to "Full Quick Restore" which does not bring back the users saved data but actually restores the factory image. ************************************************************************** The diskette created by this SoftPaq is the same Emergency Recovery diskette that users can create when they first set up their PC. It is offered here as a convenience to customers who may not have created the diskette. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette. 4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2. 5. To use the diskette, turn the PC off and insert the diskette. Then turn the PC on, allowing it to boot from the diskette. a) Read the warning and press Enter. b) Choose Full QuickRestore or Typical QuickRestore. CAUTION: Full QuickRestore restores the original Factory Software Image on the hard drive, overwriting all user-installed programs and data. Choosing Typical QuickRestore restores the C: partition with the latest software image, including user-installed programs and data, from the last time a System Save was performed to the D: partition. The process takes from 10-30 minutes. 6. Remove the diskette when prompted and restart the PC. Copyright 1999, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
