SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP5784 PART NUMBER: N/A FILE NAME: TAGFIX.EXE TITLE: Fix SMART Array Controller Drive Letter Errors VERSION: 1.0 Rev A LANGUAGE: English CATEGORY: Systems/Software Solution PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Compaq Servers OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: Compaq SMART/SMART-2 Array Controller driver from Compaq Support Software for Windows NT 4.0, Version 2.01 through Version 2.03 EFFECTIVE DATE: 19 January 1998 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 2.x SUPERSEDES: N/A DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the file TAGFIX.EXE, a utility that corrects the problem where disk numbers do not properly correspond to drive letters in the Windows NT Disk Administrator This utility is intended for Compaq servers configured as described above (see SYSTEM CONFIGURATION). The version of the Array Controller driver in this configuration changes the load order of the disk controller drivers, which may cause disk numbers and drive letters to no longer correspond in the Windows NT Disk Administrator. This utility corrects the load order of the disk controller drivers. Specifically, Compaq SCSI and Array disk controllers have a Windows NT registry entry that is used to determine disk controller load order. This registry entry is Tag:REG_DWORD and it is found in the Windows NT registry in the following location: Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\cpqarray The TAGFIX.EXE utility resets the value of this registry entry from the incorrect value of 0x64 back to the correct value of 0x100. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files. The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed. You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for the files, or default to the download directory. 3. After the files have been created, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step 1. 4. To install the fix, run TAGFIX.EXE. No user intervention is required.
