This diskette allows a user to upgrade the ROM Firmware images for these specific hard drive models. IMPORTANT: This a special upgrade process with two phases (see the HOW TO USE steps below). Compaq recommends that you backup all software and/or data in the drive(s) to be upgraded before proceeding with this firmware upgrade process. FIRMWARE HARD DRIVE MODELS =========== ================= Version C70F Models 3391SS, 3391WS, 3391NS, 4345SS, 4345WW, and 4345NS Enhancements/Fixes (for all of the above models): - Upgraded from firmware version C424 or C503 to C70F to enhance the error recovery robustness of the firmware. - Upgraded from firmware version C70E to C70F to fix a rare, intermittent NT power cycle error with an external storage unit. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain one (1) formatted 1.44-MB diskette. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskettes. 4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2. 5. The diskette is self-booting. Place the diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your system to begin updating the appropriate components. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform Phase 1 of the upgrade process. 7. When Phase 1 is completed, leave the diskette in the drive. Turn power off to the system and external storage unit (if applicable) and then turn power back on. A "Hard Reboot" is required for Phase 2 to execute (a "Soft Reboot" is not adequate). The system reboots a second time from the diskette to start Phase 2. IMPORTANT: Do not power cycle the system or storage unit DURING either phase of the upgrade process.
