TITLE: HP xw8400 Workstation System BIOS Packaged for Linux

VERSION: 2.22 Rev. a
DESCRIPTION:
This package contains an updated System BIOS release for the HP Workstation
xw8400, packaged in a way that is easily usable within a Linux operating system
environment.

NOTE: To determine the BIOS family and BIOS date, press F10 on the target
workstation during Power On to run the Computer Setup Utility, and then select
File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the workstation, the
device must be attached before the workstation is Powered On.

ENHANCEMENTS:
- Adds BIOS support for USB 2.0 to improve boot performance from USB devices.

FIXES:
- Corrects a PCI-slot labeling issue in the Computer Configuration Utility
(F10). In the HP Workstation xw6400 System BIOS versions 2.15 and 2.18,
disabling the Option ROM on a device installed in PCI slot 3 would actually
disable the Option ROM in slot 4 and vice versa.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
LINUX USERS: After downloading the SoftPaq file, verify that the SoftPaq file
has a .tgz extension. If it does not, change it to .tgz. Some browsers
automatically rename the file with a .tar extension, which makes the SoftPaq
unusable.

1. Download and extract the .TGZ file. For example, to extract the contents, at
console prompt type (where ''filename'' is replaced by the name of the file to
be extracted):
''tar -xzvf filename.tgz''

2. For more information about flashing the system BIOS, see the README text
file that is provided in the SoftPaq.
