PREREQUISITES:

- The HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger Series handheld must be configured with
a Global System for Mobile (GSM) Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card.
- A SIM card with the GPRS/EDGE data feature that is activated by a mobile
phone service provider that supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE data services.
- The desktop PC or notebook must have ActiveSync 3.8 (or later) installed.
- The desktop PC or notebook must be running the Microsoft Windows XP or
Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating System.

HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Ensure that the HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger handheld is connected to
the desktop PC or notebook.

3. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to
install the software.


To Connect Desktop PC or Notebook Using Wireless Modem in Handheld:
------------------------------------------------------------------

To connect your desktop PC or notebook using the wireless modem in the
HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger handheld for the first time, complete the
following steps:

1. Install HTC USB modem by completing the following steps:

a. Disconnect the HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger handhled from the
desktop PC or notebook.
b. On the handheld, tap Start, then tap Programs, and then tap Wireless
Modem.
c. Tap Start.
d. Connect the handheld to the desktop PC or notebook using an HP iPAQ
USB/Serial AutoSync Cable or HP iPAQ Cradle. Once connected, the
desktop PC or notebook will find new hardware.
e. Follow the on-screen instructions to automatically search for and
install the required software.
f. Following the prompts, finish the installation of the HTC USB Modem
hardware.

2. Create a New Connection by completing the appropriate steps for the
operating system installed on your desktop PC or notebook:

FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL:

a. Click Start, then click Control Panel, then click Network
Connections, and then click Create a New Connection.
b. Select Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
c. Select Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
d. Select Connect using a dial-up modem, and then click Next.
e. If you have more than one dial-up device on the desktop PC or
notebook, ensure that the Modem - HTC USB Modem box is checked and
that all other boxes are cleared (unchecked). Click Next.
f. In the ISP Name box, type "HP iPAQ Wireless Modem" and then click
Next.
g. In the Phone number box, type "*99#" and then click Next.
h. Select "Anyone's use" or "My use only" and then click Next.
i. Type the GPRS User name and Password specified by your cell phone
service provider, and then click Next.
j. Click Finish. The HP iPAQ Wireless Modem connection is now displayed
in the Network Connections window.

FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000:

a. Click Start, then click Settings, then click Control Panel, and then
click Network and Dial-up Connections.
b. Double-click Make New Connection, and then click Next.
c. If prompted, type the Area Code and then click OK.
d. If prompted, click OK on the Phone and Modem Options screen.
e. Select Dial-up to the Internet, and then click Next.
f. Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually," and then
click Next.
g. Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem," and then click
Next.
h. Ensure that "Use area code and dialing rules" is not checked. If it
is checked, clear it.
i. In the Telephone number box, type "*99#" and then click Next.
j. Type the GPRS User name and Password specified by your cell phone
service provider, and then click Next.
k. In the Connection name box, type "HP iPAQ Wireless Modem" and
and then click Next.
l. Select No, so no Internet mail account is set up, and then click
Next.
m. Click Finish. The HP iPAQ Wireless Modem connection is now displayed
in the Network Connections window.

3. Connect to the Internet using the Wireless Modem connection by completing
the following steps:

a. On the handheld, tap Start, then tap Programs, and then tap Wireless
Modem.
b. Tap Tools, and then tap Options.
c. Ensure that the Preset GPRS connections box is checked. If it is not
checked, click to select it (a checkmark is displayed).
d. In the Access Point Name (APN) box, type the APN specified by your
cell phone service provider, and then tap OK.
e. On the desktop PC or notebook, click Start, then click Control Panel,
and then click Network Connections.
f. Double-click the HP iPAQ Wireless Modem connection.
g. Click Dial. When successfully connected, a connection icon is
displayed in the status bar of the desktop PC or notebook.
