TITLE: ROMPaq for HP Notebook System BIOS (68DTH) – Linux-Based VERSION: F.06 DESCRIPTION: This package creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette or CD that can be used to locally restore or upgrade the System BIOS in the listed notebook models with a 68DTH Family ROM. NOTE: To determine the ROM family and ROM date, press F10 on the target notebook during startup to run the Setup Utility, and then view File/System Information. NOTE: After installing this package, the system defaults must be reset to the original settings. Instructions are provided in the HOW TO USE section. FIXES: - Changes name of “SD slot” field in F10 Setup Utility to “Flash media reader.” - Fixes issue with European keyboard. - Fixes restart (boot) issue that occurred with specific CD media. - Fixes intermittent issue where the integrated NIC is not listed in the Device Manager after resuming from Hibernation mode. - Fixes issue with external monitor where the only allowed video resolution was 800 x 600. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq file to a directory on your hard drive. 2. Open the shell and run the following command to extract the package: tar xf spxxxx.tar 3. Use the following command to execute the package: sh spxxxx.sh 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to create either a bootable diskette or a bootable CD. 5. After creating a bootable diskette or CD, the SoftPaq file downloaded in Step 1 can be deleted, if desired. 6. Power Off the notebook. 7. Place the newly created bootable diskette in Drive A, or place the bootable CD in the CD-ROM drive, and restart the notebook to update the system BIOS. IMPORTANT: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO THE COMPUTER WHILE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE! Resetting System Defaults ------------------------- After upgrading the BIOS, the system settings must be restored to the original default settings. To do this, complete the following steps: 1. Access the system Setup Utility by pressing F10 when the HP logo is displayed during system startup (boot). 2. Use the keyboard arrow keys to move left or right to highlight "File" in the main menu bar. 3. When the File menu is displayed, scroll down to highlight “Restore defaults” and then press Enter. Then press F10 to confirm the change. 4. Press F10 again, and then press Enter to "Save changes and exit." 5. When prompted to "Save Changes," press F10 again to restart the system.
