DESCRIPTION:   This release provides updated system ROM images
               for the latest maintenance releases of HP ProLiant 
               DL580 G3 Servers.


New Features -


        ProLiant DL580 G3 ROM P38 (05/29/2005)
        ============================================

	    1) Added support for HP's Power Regulator feature that allows 
	       customers to configure their server's power usage based on 
	       their needs. The features include:

	       HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode: This feature will lower the 
	       overall power usage of the server without affecting system 
	       performance. When this feature is enabled, the System ROM 
	       will dynamically modify each processor's frequency and 
	       voltage based on the processor's workload. When the processor 
	       is busy, it will be run in its highest power and performance 
	       state. When the processor is not busy, it will run in its 
	       lowest power state. In this manner, the system's power usage 
	       is reduced by only running the processor in a high power state 
	       when needed.

	       HP Static Low Power Mode: This mode will reduce all installed 
	       processors' frequency (and voltage for certain processors) to 
	       reduce power usage. This mode will reduce performance in 
	       environments with high CPU utilization, but will have little 
	       to no performance affect for other environments. This mode is 
	       useful for customers whose environment has constrained power 
	       availability and need to guarantee a lower overall system 
	       power usage.

       	    2) Added support for OS-level power management. When the Power 
	       Regulator feature is disabled (default), Demand Based 
	       Switching may be enabled under the operating system to provide 
	       processor power management. The operating system will modify 
	       the CPU's frequency and voltage based on CPU Utilization. 
	       This feature can be enabled under Microsoft Windows 2003 
	       Service Pack 1 and certain versions of the Linux kernel.

        ============================================
		 	     
            1) Updated embedded PXE Option ROM to version 7.7.8. This 
	       Option ROM addresses an issue where the NIC could assert 
	       a spurious interrupt during PXE boots. If using a Smart 
	       Array 64X or Smart Array 6i controller with a firmware 
	       version prior to 2.36 and the previous PXE Option ROM, 
	       a lock-up or continuous reboot could occur when 
	       performing a PXE Remote Installation Services (RIS) 
	       installation of Windows.


	    2) Updated the ROM-Based Virtual Install Disk driver for the 
	       Smart Array P600 Controller.  This driver allows installations 
	       of Microsoft Windows 2003 32-bit and Windows 2003 64-bit x86 
	       without requiring the customer to provide a driver via a 
	       floppy disk or other means. This new driver for the Smart 
	       Array P600 Controller includes a fix for the following issue:

               Systems running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with a Smart 
               Array P600 Controller and loading the Storport miniport driver 
               HpCISSs2.SYS may generate the following STOP code message 
               during periods of intensive I/O operations or when running 
               Microsoft Cluster Server software:

               STOP 0xA: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

               This System ROM includes the following versions of the Smart 
               Array P600 Controller drivers:

               HpCISSs2.SYS Version 5.0.2.32 for 32-bit x86 editions of 
               Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

               HPCISSs2.SYS Version 5.0.2.64 for 64-bit x86 editions of 
               Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

                


HOW TO USE:

1.  Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB diskette.

2.  Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory.
The file that is downloaded is SP30413.EXE.

3.  From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
SP30413 [ENTER]
You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskette into a diskette drive to
create diskette.

4.  After the diskette is created, you may delete the downloaded file
SP30413.EXE if you wish.
