PREREQUISITES:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 
WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE 
UPDATE PROCESS! 

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. After 
executing the file, the download directory (or specified location - default 
location is C:\SWSetup\SP30327) will contain the following three folders:
- ISO
- Diskette
- Files

3. Use the upgrade instructions from one of the sections that follow, based on 
the method you choose to upgrade the hard drive firmware.

ISO FOLDER - CREATE BOOTABLE CD

This folder contains the ISO file that is needed to create a bootable CD to 
upgrade the firmware on the 40-GB Samsung hard drive. To create a bootable CD 
and upgrade the firmware, complete the following steps:

1. Use your CD burner software to create a bootable CD from the ISO image file 
contained in the ISO folder. Refer to your CD burner software for further 
instructions.

2. After creating a bootable CD , place it in the CD-ROM drive of the desktop 
where the 40-GB Samsung hard drive is installed. The CD will run automatically. 
 There is no user interaction required. When the firmware upgrade is complete 
you are returned to the DOS prompt ?A:\>?.


DISKETTE FOLDER - CREATE A BOOTABLE DISKETTE

This folder contains an .EXE file that you can use to create a bootable 
diskette to upgrade the firmware on the 40-GB Samsung hard drive. To create a 
bootable diskette and upgrade the firmware, complete the following steps:

1. At the DOS prompt, go to the Diskette folder.

2. To begin the bootable diskette creation process, type the following command 
and then follow the on-screen instructions:
  SAMSUNG.EXE A

3. Place the bootable diskette in the diskette drive of the desktop in which 
the 40-GB Samsung hard drive is installed and restart the desktop. The diskette 
will run automatically. There is no user interaction required. When the 
firmware upgrade is complete, you are returned to the DOS prompt ''A:\>''.


FILES FOLDER - CREATE OTHER BOOTABLE MEDIA

This folder contains the files that are needed to upgrade the 40-GB Samsung 
hard drive using other bootable media. To create bootable media and upgrade the 
firmware, complete the following steps:

1. Copy all four files contained in the FILES folder to your bootable device 
(for example, Disk-On-Key device).

2. Restart the desktop to a DOS prompt.

3. From the DOS prompt run the following command:
  UPDATE.BAT

NOTE: If your desktop does not have a 40-GB Samsung hard drive or the Samsung 
hard drive that is installed in the desktop is not affected, the firmware 
upgrade will NOT be performed.
