TITLE: HP Insight Diagnostics Offline Edition

VERSION: 7.10 Rev. B
DESCRIPTION:
This package contains the HP Insight Diagnostics Offline Edition for the listed
workstation models and operating systems.

HP Insight Diagnostics is a proactive management tool that provides diagnostics
and troubleshooting capabilities to assist Information Technology (IT)
administrators in verifying installations, troubleshooting problems, and
performing repair validation.

HP Insight Diagnostics Offline Edition performs various in-depth system and
component testing while the operating system is not running, and is available
by booting the Documentation and Diagnostics CD. Insight Diagnostics also
enables IT administrators to track hardware and software configuration changes,
in order to form a complete and thorough auditing process for the system.

Diagnostics issues are known issues in the diagnostics that may or may not be
corrected in a future diagnostics release. If a workaround is available it is
noted in the bullets that follow:

* The system section in Survey incorrectly states hyperthreading is disabled.

* Not all USB disk-on-keys (DOK) will work properly. Most DOKs work correctly;
however, some DOKs may cause the diagnostics to stop responding during the
startup (boot) process and some are not configured even when loaded.

* If you cancel a test that is running and then attempt to run another test,
sometimes, the second test fails to run and the system displays a warning that
says that a test is in progress.

* An incorrect connector for serial ATA (SATA) drives is reported. With
multiple SATA hard drives connected to the SATA controller, the Survey Section
for Storage shows all drives being connected to the ''1st Connector.''

* During the Line and Polygon graphics test, previously displayed screens may
appear as background. For some graphics cards in some systems, when launching
the Line or Polygon graphics tests, a previously displayed screen may show as
the background at the start of the test. The tests still runs correctly.

* Some user messages may not be localized and are displayed in US English only,
even when the diagnostics are running in French, Italian, German, Spanish, or
Japanese.

HOW TO USE:
IMPORTANT: The CD data in this package is delivered as a single ISO image file
(in the format .iso). This ISO image file is first downloaded to your hard disk
and then must be burned directly to a CD-ROM, exactly as is. This is a large
file (greater than 60 MB) and may take several minutes to download. Make sure
you have enough space on your hard drive to store the image file.

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack
the files.

Completing the previous two steps provides a master ISO image file of the HP
Insight Diagnostics Offline Edition CD-ROM. From this ISO file, you can burn
your own bootable CD.

A CD (ISO) image is not a collection of compressed or uncompressed data files;
nor is it an executable (binary). Rather, it is a large, single file, which
must be copied exactly as is onto a CD. In effect, you will download the image
from the download site, and ''burn'' its contents onto your CD.

Burn the full ISO image onto a blank CD using a CD-ROM burner/recorder and any
major CD-burning software, such as Roxio (Adaptec) or Nero. Most common
CD-burning applications should have the ability to burn an ''image'' to CD.

The following procedure provides an example for creating a bootable CD from an
ISO image file (using Roxio/Adaptec Software):

1. Insert a blank CD into your CD-ROM burner/recorder (the destination drive).

2. From the File menu, select Create CD from CD Image.

3. Select the image file (*.iso file) you want to make into a CD.

4. Click Open. The CD Creation Setup dialog box is displayed.

5. If necessary, change the CD Creation Setup settings.

6. Click OK.

Use the following procedure to run the HP Insight Diagnostics once you have
created a bootable CD:

1. Set your system to enable it to boot from CD.

2. Insert the HP Insight Diagnostics CD that you burned into the CD-ROM drive.

3. Shutdown and restart
