PREREQUISITES: - Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 (or later) HOW TO USE: Important Instructions: 1. DO NOT disconnect the handheld from the host PC or from the AC power adapter during the update process. 2. Connect the handheld directly to a free USB port on the host PC. DO NOT use a USB hub when installing the XIP update. 3. Prior to installation, ensure that the handheld has a minimum of 10 MB of free system RAM*. (For information about freeing up additional memory, refer to the handheld User's Guide located on the Companion CD. The required memory is used only for the installation and will be available again once the installation setup is complete. * "System RAM" is random access memory that is available to the handheld apart from RAM storage cards. Updating your Pocket PC while connected to a desktop computer: 1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive. 2. Make sure the handheld is docked and connected to a desktop computer that has Microsoft ActiveSync v3.7.1 (or later) installed and running. 3. Apply A/C power to the handheld. 4. Execute the downloaded SoftPaq file and follow the on-screen instructions and information in the dialog boxes to complete the update. NOTE: Please be patient. This update is estimated to require at least seven minutes to complete. WARNINGs: - Do not disconnect the handheld from the host PC during installation. - Connect the handheld directly to the USB port on the PC. Do not use a USB hub. - Do not enable the handheld password feature during the update process. - Do not attempt to Power Off or restart the handheld while the update is in progress. - Do not enable the “Show information when device is turned on” feature during the update process. To disable, click “Owner” on the Today screen and uncheck the box at the bottom of the page; then click the Notes tab at the bottom of the page and uncheck “Show information when device is turned on,” which is located at the bottom of the page. - After applying a ROM update, do not attempt to restore a backup that was made before the ROM update was installed. NOTE: This XIP firmware update does not change the ROM version. To confirm that the XIP update was successful, check for the XIP version number 4.20.14133.2 in the HP Asset Viewer. To view the version number, tap Start, then tap Settings, then tap the System tab, then tap HP Asset Viewer, and then tap version. Update Tips: The size of the SoftPaq file is approximately 8 MB. If the handheld does not have enough available storage RAM free, an error is generated when copying this file to the handheld. To free the required amount of storage, try adjusting memory or temporarily removing files from storage memory. To manually adjust handheld memory, complete the following steps: 1. Tap Start, then tap Settings, and then tap the System tab. 2. Tap the Memory icon. 3. Move the slider to the right (toward the word “Program”) to increase storage memory. Be sure to leave at least 10 MB of Program memory free for the Update Setup program. 4. If additional space is needed, use the “Remove programs …” and “Find large files …” links near the bottom of the Memory Settings screen.
