TITLE: Broadcom Firmware Upgrade Utility for the 5702 Ethernet Controller VERSION: 2 Rev. A DESCRIPTION: This package contains a utility that upgrades the firmware for the Broadcom 5702 Ethernet Controller on the listed workstations and operating systems. The firmware is upgraded for motherboard-based 5702 controllers and 5702 controllers on network interface cards. IMPORTANT: This package does not automatically upgrade the firmware. Additional steps, provided in the Installation Instructions, are required to upgrade the firmware. PURPOSE: Routine SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP28536 SUPERSEDES: None EFFECTIVE DATE: August 26, 2004 CATEGORY: Driver - Network SSM SUPPORTED: No PRODUCT TYPE(S): Workstations PRODUCT MODEL(S): HP Workstation xw5000: All Models HP Workstation xw6000: All Models DEVICES SUPPORTED: "5702 Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller" OPERATING SYSTEM(S): Windows 2000 Windows XP Professional LANGUAGE(S): Global ENHANCEMENTS: - Upgrades firmware to Version 2.37. PREREQUISITES: This firmware upgrade utility only runs on workstations configured with the Broadcom 5702 Ethernet controller. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive. 2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. This stores the firmware upgrade files in the folder C:\SWSETUP\SP28536, or equivalent. However, the 5702 Ehternet Controller firmware is not actually upgraded at this time. In this step, the files in the SoftPaq are extracted and stored. 3. Obtain a version of MS-DOS, such as MS-DOS 6.22, and store the DOS files on removable media such as a CD or a diskette. Then copy the firmware upgrade files from the folder created during Step 2 to the media containing the DOS files. 4. Insert the media in the workstation that contains the Broadcom 5702 Ethernet Controller and Power On the workstation. You may need to use the F10 BIOS Setup program to ensure that the system boots into DOS from the media you just inserted. 5. After the workstation boots into DOS, it automatically runs the firmware upgrade utility and scans the PCI bus for 5702 Ethernet Controllers. The firmware is upgraded to version 2.37 on all 5702 Ethernet Controllers that are found. 6. After the update is complete, remove the media and cycle power, which causes the workstation to boot back into Windows. It is suggested that you run the Broadcom Control Suite (accessible from the Control Panel) to validate that the 5702 firmware has been upgraded. This can be done by selecting the network interface on the left side of the Broadcom Control Suite tool and then selecting the Hardware tab on the right side. The 5702 firmware version should now be 2.37. Copyright (c) 2004 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
