- This package is ONLY for RedHat 9 Linux running kernel 2.4.20-8.2.x. 

NOTE: This package will NOT work for any other kernel or OS version. To obtain 
an update for any other Linux image other than the one specified, please visit 
the Adaptec website. 


HOW TO USE: 
1. Download and unpack the TAR & GZIPPED archive by using 'tar -xvzf 
alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.20_8.4.i386.tgz.

2. Install the binary rpm, alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.20_8.4.i386.rpm using the 
RedHat Package Manger. To do this, with root privilages, type at a console 
prompt:

'rpm -qva | grep hpalsa' to find out if you already have a version of the 
bcm5700 driver installed. If you do, use:

'rpm -U alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.20_8.4.i386.rpm

otherwise use:

'rpm -ivh alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.20_8.4.i386.rpm'

3. check if "modprobe sound-slot-0" is in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.  If it's not add 
it at the end of the file.

4. Reboot and configure the hpalsa audio driver if Kudzu prompts you. 

5. Begin using the updated driver.
