PREREQUISITES: 
Must have alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.4.i386.rpm, 
alsa-utils-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm, and alsa-lib-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm 
already installed, in that order.

HOW TO USE: 
1. Install the following RPMs in the following order using the directions 
provided below:

     A. alsa-driver-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.4.i386.rpm
     B. alsa-utils-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm
     C. alsa-lib-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm
     D. alsa-oss-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm

2. Check to make sure you have A, B, and C installed with a 'rpm -qva | grep 
alsa'.  If you do not have A, B, and C installed, go install them now in the 
order shown in section 1.

3.. Download and unpack the TAR & GZIPPED archive by using 'tar -xvzf 
alsa-oss-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.tgz.

4. Install the binary rpm, alsa-oss-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm using the RedHat 
Package Manger. To do this, with root privilages, type at a console prompt:

'rpm -qva | grep hpalsa' to find out if you already have a version of the 
hpalsa OSS installed. If you do, use:

'rpm -U alsa-oss-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm'

otherwise use:

'rpm -ivh alsa-oss-0.9.8-2.4.7_10.1.i386.rpm'

5. check for the entry "modprobe sound-slot-0" in /etc/rc.d/rc.local, if it is 
not there, add it.

6. Reboot and configure the hpalsa audio driver if Kudzu prompts you. 

7. Begin using the updated driver.
