TITLE: HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 Series Firmware Update VERSION: 1.00.18 DESCRIPTION: This SoftPaq contains an XIP (Execute In Place) Cab file which replaces the Miscellaneous OEM region of the ROM Image on your iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 Series. This is a permanent update to the flash ROM. IMPORTANT: This XIP update is designed to replace the Miscellaneous OEM region of your ROM image. It is important for you to read and understand the information in the Readme file included with this update. This XIP Update does not change the ROM version. PREREQUISITES: - Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 or later HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 2. Establish an Activesync connection between your iPAQ Pocket PC and host PC through either the USB or Serial connection. 3. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the iPAQ Pocket PC h5500 series Firmware Update. INSTALLATION NOTES: 1. Important: Please ensure you have completed the following tasks: - Do not enable the device password feature during the update process. - Do not attempt to turn off or restart the device while the update is in progress. - Do not enable “Show information when device is turned on” feature during the update process. To disable, simply click “Owner” on the today screen and uncheck the box at the bottom of the page, then click the “Notes” tab at the bottom of the page and uncheck “Show information when device is turned on” located at the bottom of the page. - After applying a ROM update, do not attempt to restore a backup that was made before the ROM update was installed. 2. Important: Disable the standby and hibernation modes on your host PC. If standby or hibernation are activated during the upgrade process, a critical error may occur. 3. Important: Plan for enough time to start and complete the update process. The total time to perform a ROM backup and a ROM update is estimated to be as follows: * USB - 5 minutes * Serial - 30 minutes 4. Important: Do not interact with your device or remove it from AC power or the cradle/cable once the hour glass appears on the iPAQ and the actual update has started. 5. If an error message is displayed during the process, follow any available instructions to correct the condition and start the utility again. 6.
