Note: HP recommends that the ADU or the Survey Utility be run on the server just prior to launching HDSERIAL.EXE to ensure that the most current system data will be available.

DESCRIPTION: Contains the HDSERIAL.EXE utility used to identify a very small percentage of 36-GB and 72-GB Ultra320 SCSI Hard Drives that shipped in certain HP ProLiant servers, HP SCSI Hard Drive Option Kits and Spares Kits between April 2003 and September 2003 that are susceptible to an invalid read operation. 

FEATURES: The HDSERIAL.EXE Utility is a Microsoft Windows-based application that is capable of identifying an affected hard drive based on the "CT" numbers located on the label of standalone hard drives that have not been installed in a ProLiant server or based on the factory serial numbers from hard drives installed in ProLiant servers running Windows, NetWare or Linux operating systems.



HOW TO USE: 

1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. After the softpaq files have been expanded, you may delete the downloaded softpaq file (sp24997.EXE).

3. There will be 6 files:
   HDSERIAL.EXE
   HDSERIAL_USERGUIDE.RTF
   IM7SP2-Readme.txt
   drives.sql
   IM7SP2.bat
   surveychk.bat

   
4. Reference the HDSERIAL.EXE USER GUIDE available in the SoftPaq as HDSERIAL_USERGUIDE.RTF.
